Excerpt: The latest entry featuring our favourite crawling, warring invertebrates, will be familiar to anyone who has spent time chucking Holy Hand grenades at friends since the 90s. Developer Team 17′s Worms Revolution rejuvenates the potentially stale formula by fine-tuning its strategic combat, adding customization, and keeping the humour fans have grown accustom to.
Excerpt: Every month, gamers get a ton of great new titles to play that are packed with intense graphics, insane gameplay and that fully take advantage of today's technological advances. Does this mean there is still room for old-school favorites that may not have all the bells and whistles that we have come accustomed to? Can today's gamer take the time to enjoy a game for the mere fun and enjoyment it has to offer with its basic gameplay and characters?
Excerpt: Every gamer knows about Worms, but it is a decade since anybody cared about them. Worms struggled more than most to make the transition to 3D; its skilled manoeuvres and careful strategy lost in the third dimension. It tried to over-complicate ( Worms 3D ) and it tried to quirk ( Ultimate Mayhem ), but it just couldn't manage the advance.
Excerpt: Worms have a pretty crappy existence. Chased by moles, harried by birds, torn by children, they are nature's whipping boys despite allegedly being able to live on once split in two. Although they have fared better in the world of videogames, a better, less violent life has always eluded them. Earthworm Jim set the ball rolling, but the Lumbricus Terrestris are most famous for blowing each other up using an arsenal big enough to make the US Army blush.
Excerpt: The Worms series hails from a different, simpler era of gaming, when multiplayer was a side-by-side affair that offered huge entertainment as players vied to bump off the opposition's chirruping antagonists in ever more inventive ways and when a suicidal sheep was in every player's arsenal.
Summary: Ever since its release in 1995, strategy title, Worms has become one of the most loved franchises in console history. So much so, that the game’s developer, Team 17 ported a number of the titles onto the Xbox Live Arcade.
Pros: Great assortment of Worms titles, Hours of gameplay, Well priced
Summary: The Worms franchise is destined to live on in infamy as one of the greatest 2D games of all time. Ultimate Mayhem is likely not going to hold that same glory, but remains a fun side project nonetheless. Worms Collection is a great bundle, however for the current £25 asking price it's cheaper to download Worms & Worms: Armageddon off the XBLA and forgo Ultimate Mayhem for the time being.
