Review: Wolfenstein (Microsoft Xbox 360)

Diehard GameFAN
9 December 2009
  • Summary: : Wolfenstein is essentially a melding of old and modern FPS mechanics that comes together into a game that’s stylish and enjoyable, but not especially original or interesting in the long term.

  • Conclusion: The enemies are varied, but you'll know exactly how to deal with them once you get a feel for their strategy, weapon and their iconic German phrases that are shouted when they know you're around. (ACHTUNG!) All in all, it is a steal for 400MSP if you're a nostalgia junkie.

Wolfenstein (Xbox 360) Review

411mania.com
7 December 2009
  • Summary: Wolfenstein has always been about one thing, killing Nazis. Wolfenstein on 360 and PS3 holds up this tradition of mindless fun, although it doesn’t do anything revolutionary. The multiplayer mode is a big letdown, and I have my doubts the community will stick around.

Violence against Nazis at center of over-the-top shooter.

Common Sense Media
6 December 2009
  • Summary: Parents need to know that this Mature-rated first-person shooter features plenty of violence, blood, and gore. It's not out of context in this fictional Nazi universe, but there is a fair amount of blood and lots of weapons and dismemberment.

Wolfenstein

  • Excerpt: Ask an older gamer about Wolfenstein and you'll likely get one of two reactions: Castle Wolfenstein , a 2D, stealth-based computer game from the 1980s, or Wolfenstein 3D , an early 1990s first-person shooter that many point to as the catalyst for the popularity of that style of game.

Game Over Online

  • Excerpt: Castle Wolfenstein has kept many secrets. It was the first time gamers heard "achtung!" on their Atari 800s and Commodore 64s. It was also the first time that video games in general gave you a set of papers and a gun and then told you to go "kill some naahzees.

Wolfenstein

Auracore MediaWorks
23 September 2009
  • Summary: Nein! Ist pronounced Volfenshteen!
  • Pros: Satisfying gunplay and weaponry; veil powers add a cool twist to the WWII genre; solid graphics and presentation; good level design; upgrade system for weapons and magic is well thought out; loads of hidden items to find and unlock in both single and multiplayer; fun yet cheesy b-movie storyline.
  • Cons: Hub sections are repetitive and don't add a lot to the experience; bland multiplayer; there's nothing shockingly original here; the game is more linear than you'd think.
