Excerpt: Sometimes the difference between a good game and a truly great game is the often bandied about practice of ‘polish,’ those extra weeks and months that developers spend on ensuring that their game experience is perfectly smooth, not giving any gamer a chance to get distracted by badly implemented mechanics or iffy graphical glitches.
Summary: The game almost had potential with it’s original look at the basic fun features of the games like GTA and Driver but a clear focus on what really matters was lost and flaws make for a hard frustrating gaming and not in the good way and unfortunately, I can see only a handful of people actually enjoying it for what it is.
Excerpt: What was it she said to get again: bananas, pork...or was it beef...either way she can make heaven out both, so I guess it can't matter too much. I should have actually listened this time instead of just nodding with a smile as usua...wait, what the?!...
Summary: Ever since it was announced as both a movie and video game, Hollywood's influence on Wheelman has been clear. The game certainly panders to action game fans, finally answering the question, "What would it be like to spin a motorcycle onto its front wheel and shoot a truck in slow motion?" While the driving is fun and exciting, the on-foot sections are terrible, mired by poor control and weak enemy AI.
Pros: Slo-mo gunplay can be exciting, Great cinematic chase music, Finely tuned driving controls, Easy to jump between missions
Cons: Terrible on-foot controls, Cliched script and dialogue, Short story length, Static environments limit the 'open world' appeal, No multiplayer
Excerpt: When first laying eyes on The Wheelman, many will no doubt take a look for an accompanying movie to compliment the game, however a movie will no be found. The reason for this is that The Wheelman features well known actor Vin Diesel as the lead character with his face placed onto the front cover. It is indeed interesting that some studio games are moving more towards movies, banking on big names to sell games.
Excerpt: Vin Diesel seems to get around a lot. With two games in the same month, Wheelman comes from Midway Newcastle and UBISoft who bought the game from the troubled publisher at the end of its three-year development life. Heavily inspired by other games in the genre, especially the Driver series. If imitation is to be the most sincere form of flattery, Driver should feel a little embarrassed.
Excerpt: Can Vin Diesel’s voice acting be better than his on screen antics in The Pacifier? The Wheelman was set to revolutionise the action driving genre and when Vin Diesel first made the big time with The Fast and the Furious, teenage girls the world over craved for the muscle bound heart throb. Obviously Midway and Ubi Soft thought this a good idea to throw the Hollywood star into an uninteresting, flawed, boring driving game.
Pros: Vin Diesel, Movie Inspiration, Over the Top Gameplay
Cons: Vin Diesel, Over the Top Gameplay, Graphics,, Collision Detection, Physics, Character Animation
