Doesn't live up to the hype

Casey Bonoyer, Amazon
17 October 2014
  • Summary: I was really caught up in all the hype when this game was coming out. I was excited for a thrilling game that really changed the way we looked at video game worlds, opening up bold new possibilities for gameplay. While the whole CtOS hacking concept is really cool in theory, in practice I've found that it loses its novelty fairly quickly.

  • Summary: The aspect of the game is great. The story line is interesting. However, I feel the graphics could be better. Do not buy this game if you are comparing it to GTA; this is not that kind of game. Overall, its fun but it's not great.

Watch Dogs is solid but, ultimately, fails to rise above its peers

Jared Castle "Oregon writer", Amazon
9 August 2014
  • Summary: The major complaint with Watch Dogs is that the parts which are enjoyable have been done better in other games -- and made more sense in other games. Watch Dogs can't quite figure out what it wants to be and finds itself unable to fully commit to anything. Strung together by a story line that never quite sets its hooks, the experience is like eating a seven-course dinner where each dish is individually good but the whole doesn't work together.

Good buy not great...

Mike P., Amazon
31 July 2014
  • Summary: Why its 3 stars and not 5... - Storyline is way too short - No car customization - No shooting from inside of vehicles - No airplanes or helicopters to control - AI is a little iffy at times - Very few choices for vehicles - No save feature, just autosave... WHY? If you start a new game all of your current progress is lost.

Tepid end to a promising concept

Rich, Amazon
28 July 2014
  • Summary: I sincerely hope that the Xbox One version Watchdogs is better, and that many of the issues in the Xbox 360 version are the result of downgrading the game for the last-gen console. That said, it still has to install 9GB to your hard drive (sorry, Xbox 360 Arcade owners), the graphics are 7 years behind trend even for downgraded graphics, and the gameplay is tepid compared to its ambitious concept.

Fantastic open world, lukewarm game

Eric San Juan, Amazon
28 July 2014
  • Summary: Watch Dogs came front-loaded with a TON of hype, but thankfully I avoided most of it and was able to come into this game with few preconceived notions. All I knew is that this was to be a futuristic open world game in which hacking your way through the world's various security and intelligence systems was a genre-changing mechanic. Well, the revolution isn't quite as explosive as you may have expected. What Watch Dogs gets right it gets VERY right.

Boring, forgettable story, repetitive gameplay, but it works

Turtle502, Amazon
27 July 2014
  • Summary: Watch Dogs is an example of an open-world game that just didn't need to be open-world. While the city is big, there's very little with which you can interact. Buildings you can actually enter are rare. There's no reason why Watch Dogs could not have been developed with "linear levels" instead of a vast open world with little to do. I'll get this out of the way first. The game works well.

High Potential Squandered on Rushed Workmanship and Poor Execution

Kyle Slayzar, Amazon
27 July 2014
  • Summary: Watch Dogs was a game that experienced quite a bit of hype leading up to it as developer Ubisoft Montreal boasted a Grand Theft Auto-esque experience for the digital age with hacking-based sandbox mechanics from controlling traffic lights, surveillance cameras, and even fork lifts to achieve your goals.

like how you use personal information

Sprout, Amazon
26 July 2014
  • Summary: I didn't pay much attention to the coverage for Watch Dogs before it came out, but while I was waiting for the game to come in the mail, I hopped online and watched some gameplay videos, and it got me really excited. Unfortunately, it was overall a lot of hype for not-much. There are some really interesting gameplay mechanics that just were never fully realized, like how you use personal information, hacking, etc.
