Conclusion: Overall score: 3.5/5 Defining game of the generation: NO The reviewer spent approximately 14 hours guiding Aiden on his revenge induced quest (on an alternate profile) through a few side missions and the slightest amount of multiplayer. He is looking forward to finishing up several side missions, and play more of the dreaded drinking game. A copy of Watch Dogs was provided by the publisher for the purpose of this review.
Summary: Hacking your way to victory, one security camera at a time.
Pros: Hacking mechanic really opens both gameplay and narrative possibilities; a rather interesting story with incredibly lively characters; online free roam is a hilarious amount of fun.
Cons: Story is a big ol’ fetch quest; driving sucks; side characters are more interesting than the protagonist; ungodly number of terrible side activities to populate the game; competitive online is almost completely useless.
Summary: In production for half a decade, 'Watch Dogs' has always, at least on paper looked like the offspring of a union between the 'Grand Theft Auto' and 'Assassin's Creed' series. Set in a modern day Chicago, 'Watch Dogs' takes the classic third-person, open-world action formula and infuses it with a tried and true story of revenge, regret and intrigue, all intertwined against a backdrop of digital espionage, where no one's secrets are...well..
Conclusion: One-button hacking might be overly simplistic, but it does give you abilities that make playing through Aiden’s story feel powerful and fun. Doing side missions and multiplayer as you make your way through the dark and lengthy story makes it feel like a huge adventure, and stealth options let you play smart if you prefer.
Pros: Great open world, Hacking powers, Mission variety
Excerpt: When Ubisoft first lifted the veil on Watch Dogs , it was one of the most talked about next generation games. The fact that it was a launch title was enough to make numerous people pre-order a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One , so when the company delayed the game, pushing it to a spring release, it was hard for some gamers to handle.
Pros: Large open-world environment with lots to do, Branching skill tree to level up the way you want to, Multiple ways to play for different types of gamers
Cons: Controls take some time to adjust to, Different approaches dont have a huge impact on your character progression
