Too Human Review

IGN Entertainment
6 March 2010
  • Conclusion: Myabe I’m just being a wuss about the enemies and the bosses. No, I still think they do some cheap stuff. Maybe I would have had a better time if I played with a different class. But I should have a good time playing any class, shouldn’t I? And here’s another thing I should do: look awesome at all times. Too Human is full of loot drops, meaning you have tons of weapons and armors to try out and even craft.

Review: Too Human

Aeropause
3 March 2010
  • Excerpt: Too Human came out in 2008, roughly ten years after it was originally announced for the first PlayStation. Of course, the game wasn’t in development that whole time, and the final result is very different …

Too Human

Game Boyz

  • Excerpt: The story of Too Human is based off of the ancient Norse mythologies of Odin, Thor, Loki, Freya and the rest of the Pantheon of Gods. Silicon Knights have taken some creative liberty with this and put their own spin on the myths. The game’s main story focuses on the idea that the magic that the gods were believed to posses was not magic at all, but instead was advanced technology that was at their disposal.

Imagine What Could Have Been

Game Informer
22 September 2009
  • Conclusion: Concept: An action/RPG that tosses tons of loot at players, but little in terms of solid gameplay Graphics: The effects are vibrant, and the character models look fantastic. The environments are drab, however, and the animation is stiff in both combat and cutscenes Sound: Outside of hearing yourself say, ''Why won't he target him?!,'' the pounding orchestrated score roots you on and the voicework isn't half bad Playability: The analog controls work?sometimes.

Too Human (X360) - Review

VGChartz
1 August 2009
  • Excerpt: In Too Human you play as Baldur; the main character in a game world which combines futuristic technology with Norse legends. Humanity is under threat, hunted to near extinction by a race of machines, and has been forced to flee to the city of Asgard. Here the humans fall under the protection of the Aesir, a group of powerful Gods. Baldur is one such God, and his overriding mission is to take the war to the machines and protect humanity.

Too Human

Strategy Informer

  • Conclusion: This game is also yet another that is suffering under the weight of its own hype. Between the waiting and the many claims by Dyack as to how good this game is, people are going to have set the bar high. And people being people, they won’t look at its many strengths, they will only count its weaknesses. Those tiny flaws that, whilst insignificant in the grand scheme of things, can really get on your nerves sometimes.

Expert Review

Game Informer
6 March 2009
  • Summary: Now is the time to temper your expectations. Too Human is not a bad game – it employs a unique approach to action that provides some solid thrills - but the occasional combat high isn't enough to bridge the gaps in other areas. It feels like substantial pieces of the game are missing: Only one class can heal itself, targeting is an absolute mess, and the overwrought story is average at best (and unintentionally funny at worst).

Too Human

Video Game Generation
22 February 2009
  • Summary: Even though I sound highly critical, Silicon Knights should be commended for trying something different in Too Human . It does succeed in laying down a good foundation for any future games, and there is potential if they get a sequel out in a reasonable time. The present game is worth a playthrough, and if you’re a fan of dungeon crawlers you’ll enjoy this and find some serious replay value.
  • Pros: Excellent dungeon crawler, Adaptation of Norse mythology, Fluid large-scale fast paced combat with simple control, Loot and level grinding
  • Cons: Multiplayer aspect cut down too much, thus limiting replay value, Story feels too short and goes into a cliffhanger right when it starts to advance, Little explanation for plot devices/universe background, Controls take a little getting used to; some gamers may not be able to ever use the right stick as an attack stick
