Excerpt: “A little bit of everything” seems to be EA Sports’ motto these days. At this point in the console generation, it’s a bit much to expect giant innovations in gameplay mechanics or graphics. Because of that, EA Sports has gone for the kitchen-sink approach with this year’s iteration of its starting lineup, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 is no different.
Conclusion: The real-time online play and old-school throwbacks of Legends Of The Majors mode are the highlight of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14, which is a solid game but shows the series needs an adrenaline shot of fresh inspiration.
Conclusion: Legends of the Masters dips into the sport's past, drawing on the power of its players and its history for one of the PGA Tour's best new features in recent years. Much of the rest of the additions, however, have little or no impact. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 is decent, but do we really need another EA golf game?
Summary: Parents need to know that Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 is a family-friendly golf game. It lets you step onto world-famous courses, as or against celebrated golf pros from today or yesterday. There isn't any eyebrow-raising content to worry about in this game -- except for the option to voice chat during online play, and thus risk hearing inappropriate language (such as profanity).
Excerpt: With the next generation of consoles glimmering like an oasis on the horizon, gamers and developers have arrived at an interesting crossroads. On the one hand, we are being treated to some of the best games of the last/current generation as developers are now familiar enough with the tech to push it to the limit.
Pros: Enthralling Legends of the Majors mode depicts over a century of golfing history, Sepia-tone graphics and authentic old-time clubs for historic moments, Adds depth with LPGA Tour, night golf, and quick tournaments, Shot shaping gives you more control with draws and fades
Cons: The core game shows little evolution over previous years, Inconsistent commentary, Lingering swing issues with Kinect
Conclusion: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 is still an excellent game of golf. I am a huge fan of the new Legends of the Majors modes. It has a ton of content and is one of the better pick up and play modes in a sports game. Although not a major update, if you’re in the mood for more golf or may have missed a couple of Tiger Woods outings, this is a great one to jump back into.
Excerpt: Each new Tiger Woods release tends to feel like the same core simulation wrapped up in a fresh shell, offering new features and modes at the expense of past ones — for better or worse. Last year’s Tiger Legacy was a novel, albeit off-putting, look back on Woods’ earliest steps into golf, but it’s M.I.A. here. Good thing, too, as its replacement is one of the best modes the series has seen in years.
Pros: + Legends of the Majors mode is a sharp addition., + Robust, well-oiled simulation with many features.
Cons: - Flat presentation (outside Legends of the Majors mode) and visuals., ? You can't play as two-year-old Tiger anymore? Shame.
