The Warriors: Street Brawl
18 October 2013
Excerpt: The plot of The Warriors is simple enough, a street gang is framed for the murder of a man who sought to unite the city’s gangs, which results in a massive manhunt. The Warriors have to cross the entire city to get back to their own turf, with every rival gang in their path. In The Warriors: Street Brawl, you control one of several of the Warriors in their effort to get home, so prepare yourself for non stop fisticuffs.
Excerpt: You can't dig it. Apologies to Cyrus and his pals in the Gramercy Riffs, but The Warriors: Street Brawl wastes the cheesy-cool gangs of the classic '70s flick on a boring scrolling brawler for Xbox Live Arcade. Ridiculously protracted levels, repetitive punch-ups, and murky graphics make it just about impossible to stick with the game long enough to see Luther clinking beer bottles on Coney Island.
Pros: Fans of the movie will appreciate the settings and enemy gangs
Cons: Padded levels make the campaign long and dreary, Poor fighting flow and cheating, cheap-shot enemies, Too dark and gritty to feel like the movie, Murky visuals and oddly modern music
Summary: It was somewhat of a risky strategy to release a side scrolling beat em up to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the cult classic movie " The Warriors " and I have to say that overall I am disappointed with the result.
Excerpt: Back in 2005, I played a game version of one of my favorite cult movies, The Warriors. When Rockstar Toronto released it. I never expected it to be so good. Not only was it a deep brawler with solid controls and nonstop action, it did what many movie based games couldn't do. It actually expanded on the Warriors universe with lots of back story and a ton of side missions.
Summary: Five years ago Rockstar Games stunned the critics with their amazing retelling of The Warriors. Here we are in 2009 and the publisher is back with a brand new Xbox Live Arcade game. Unfortunately The Warriors: Street Brawl completely forgets what was fun about the movie and the 2004 game, instead the property into a repetitive brawler with no depth or character! This product was submitted by the publisher for review.
Excerpt: “Warriors… come out to play-eeeee!” Let’s start at the beginning. The Warriors is a 1979 cult film, about a New York gang trying to get back home to Coney island. At the same time being hunted down by all the other gangs in New York, after being wrongly accused of murdering a rival gangs boss. The film has it’s moments, but for most today, it would probably seem a little to old skool. Despite it’s faults, I still love the film, Now to the Games.
Summary: Without dipping into the cliche too much, of course fans of the film will be interested in this game and will appreciate the lengths to which detail has been included, but this is a beat-em up game, for beat-em up players with hours worth of game play maybe being a bit too much. This is a game which should be played to enjoy not played to complete and for people who like a challenge!
