The Club Review

IGN Entertainment
11 March 2010
  • Conclusion: And if there’s a criticism of The Club , it’ll be the longevity of the single-player modes. You can quickly play through all of them in Casual to unlock most of the game’s elements (and rack up the achievements you’ll get for completing each tournament area at any difficulty), and then likely try them out in harder difficulties to see how far you can get (and likely seek out the achievements that are offered for completing all the tournaments at Insane).

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: The Club appears to be a rather mediocre shooter in an incredibly overpopulated genre, aiming itself at gamers who have just come through 6 months of the best games console shooters have ever offered. It may not have the glamorous swagger of Master Chief or the chest felt tension of Call of Duty 4, but The Club manages to keep its head held high with a stylish combo and scoring system that makes it more addictive than Kate Moss' own brand of superglue.

  • Excerpt: Name: The Club Genre: Action Platform: PS3, Xbox 360 (Reviewed on the Xbox 360) A game like The Club is tough to compare to other shooters.  While most 3rd and 1st person shooters emphasize strong strategic play, utilization of cover, flanking, stealth and even team mechanics, The Club laughs at these concepts, opting for pure run and gun gameplay.  The formula is entirely unique, and in most cases, it works just fine.

Game Over Online

  • Excerpt: The Good : Creative, innovative combination of FPS and racing. The Bad : That’s wildly fun for about 4 hours, and then becomes very repetitive. The Ugly : Microsoft wants $50/yr for multiplayer. It’s seriously coming to the point that I see the Microsoft Gaming Live service insignia on the box as something of a warning label, like a skull and crossbones on a bottle of iodine. Warning: Extremely mediocre gaming experience contained within.

  • Excerpt: If you are a Jason Statham fan (and who isn't?), then you've probably seen the movie Crank. In the movie Statham's character is injected with a lethal poison; the only thing he can do to stay alive is keep moving... and to keep killing. This same basic concept applies to Bizarre Creations's latest game The Club. Imagine a video game version of the movie broken up into bite size pieces with a splash of arcade flavor, and you have The Club.
  • Pros: Adrenaline filled gameplay, Siege Mode, The arcade feel
  • Cons: Style of game not for everyone, Level variety doesn't exist

  • Excerpt: What does it take to get into this exclusive club? Excellent shooting skills and accuracy as well as speed and style. What does it take to stay in the club? Remaining Alive, Combos, and High Scores. What extra perks does this club have, you might ask? Well… the Xbox 360 version of the game comes with a free 48-hour trial of Xbox Live for those few that aren’t already a member.
