The Amazing Spider-Man (Xbox 360)

ccgr.org

  • Excerpt: Full disclosure: I am an absolutely massive fan of the Spider-Man 2 game on sixth generation consoles. While it was a flawed experience, marred by repetitive missions and slow combat, there has yet to be a Spider-Man game that immersed the player more fully. Every action, from swinging on a web to throwing a punch, carried weight. Nothing was done for you—no over-simplified web swinging and no button mashing to win fights.
  • Pros: Fluid animations, beautiful cityscapes, excellent boss battles
  • Cons: Irritating combat, lack of interesting side-activities, uninvolving gameplay

True achievements

  • Conclusion: A mediocre game from start to finish, The Amazing Spider-Man has failed to deliver the game we all hoped for. In short, it’s just not that amazing. Hit; It’s great to see Spider-Man back in an open world environment. Miss; There’s nothing that makes you sit up and pay attention. Need; To remember who the hero is. Spider-Man is not Batman, he never will be, and that’s a good thing.

  • Conclusion: A well made, if slightly flawed, adaptation of the friendly neighborhood webhead that is sure to provide far more entertainment than it does boredom. Roaming the city skyline and then zipping down into combat is exhilarating stuff, until the gloss wears off and The Amazing Spider-Man becomes a game where you’ll have seen it all before.

The Amazing Spider-Man Xbox 360 Review

Console Obsession
20 July 2012
  • Excerpt: Whilst Beenox’s first two Spider-Man offerings, Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time, were likeable in their own ways, it still felt as if something was missing without a more open environment for Spidey to swing around in and better show the potential of the iconic Marvel hero that was first displayed in Treyarch’s Spider-Man 2. So needless to say with fellow film game The Amazing Spider-Man , it’s great to see a larger world once again to swing through.

The Amazing Spider-Man Review

IGN Entertainment
13 July 2012
  • Conclusion: Spider-Man's witty one-liner remarks are a staple of any form of media you find him in. The Amazing Spider-Man does a remarkable job in representing this after rescuing a civilian in need, in cinematic scenes during a mission, or just stopping on the sidewalk and talking to random people. There are a variety of quotes that Spider-Man will dish out while doing these things, but it seems that some lines get repeated more often than others.

  • Conclusion: We miss games with more flare, better characterization, cool missions, an interesting story, interesting new worlds and so on. It takes a lot of creativity to come up with such qualities, especially in a video game. Still folks, it is possible.
  • Pros: Combat is entertaining, Spidey's new abilities are a welcome addition to the franchise, looks and sounds good;
  • Cons: Mediocre writing and boring plot, dull world, not-so-funny humor, very easy at times.

Expert Review

Game Over Online
12 July 2012
  • Excerpt: The storyline takes place after the movie and involves Spidey and Dr. Connors trying to prevent the virus he created from spreading after already infecting Peter's beloved Gwen Stacy and a team of Oscorp scientists including her and Allistaire Smythe. Due to this happening after the movie, I'm not going to go too in-depth about it since it would not only be spoiling something in one medium but two, so I'll just say that while it's fairly predictable at points, that isn't...

The Amazing Spider-Man

Game Over Online
12 July 2012
  • Excerpt: This generation has been a rather rough one for Spidey, especially considering that the prior one brought two fantastic ones in Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate Spider-Man. This gen did have Shattered Dimensions, but outside of that, it's been full of disappointment, including last year's restrictive Edge of Time. Many were hoping that Beenox's first attempt at a more free-roaming Spidey game would succeed where other games failed. Sadly, that doesn't quite happen here.

  • Conclusion: Call it a movie-game if you must, but The Amazing Spider-Man is a standout superhero game that is accessible, fun, and pretty addictive.
