The Testament of Sherlock Holmes (Xbox 360)

ccgr.org
30 September 2013
  • Excerpt: Despite my last experience with Frogwares’ take on the famous Sherlock Holmes , I’d be lying if I claimed to be indifferent about their newest release. Their last console release, Sherlock Holmes Verses Jack The Ripper, was an incredibly flawed adventure game that wowed me with its excellent, thought-provoking story and irritated me to no end with its frustratingly difficult puzzles.
  • Pros: Improved puzzle design, decent voice acting
  • Cons: Fan fiction quality story, awkward animations, spotty object interaction

  • Excerpt: “Elementary, my dear Watson.” With a massive following and growing renewed popularity, Sherlock Holmes games have a huge standard to meet with nearly unattainable expectations and preconceptions of how the game should play. A high expectation of unique storyline, outstanding graphics and super-sleuthing lore seems nearly unrealistic but certainly met during The Testament of Sherlock Holmes, and AbleGamers readers should be quite satisfied.

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes (Xbox360)

  • Excerpt: When Sir Arthur Conan Doyle first set pen to paper, I am sure that he did not know the legacy he would leave behind and I am pretty sure that he was unaware that this legacy would extend to computer games. I, for one, am grateful that it has, however, and I was keen to take my mind off high intensity games like Battlefield 3, FIFA 13 and so forth, and immerse myself in logic, deductive reasoning and puzzle solving.

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes review

GamesRadar
2 October 2012
  • Excerpt: In a world where Sherlock Holmes is more commonly known from modern-day crime dramas and Robert Downey Jr. movies than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original stories, European developer Frogwares wants to try the noble thing and bring the famed detective back closer to his literary roots. As such, The Testament of Sherlock Holmes--Frogwares’ seventh entry in its Sherlock Holmes series and the first one for consoles since 2008’s Sherlock Holmes Versus Jack The Ripper --eschews...

Another Solid Case For The Great Sherlock Holmes

Game Informer
26 September 2012
  • Conclusion: Concept: Weave together adventure game puzzles with a twisting and entertaining mystery Graphics: Greatly improved over the last Sherlock Holmes game, which still isn't saying much Sound: The voice acting is hit-or-miss, but the actors for Holmes and Watson give dependable performances Playability: Considering most of the gameplay consists of pointing and clicking on things, the first-person controls are fine Entertainment: Some confusing puzzles and moments of...

Compelling but gory adventure for mature mystery lovers.

Common Sense Media
21 September 2012
  • Summary: Parents need to know that The Testament of Sherlock Holmes carries a "Mature" rating and is not intended for players younger than 17. There is plenty of blood and gore, including several mutilated corpses (which players must examine for clues), assault victims with bloody faces, and a cutscene of a man shooting himself in the head.
