Stranglehold

Game Over Online
21 September 2015
  • Excerpt: Continuing the story of Inspector ‘Tequila’ Yuen from John Woo‘s "Hard Boiled" film, Stranglehold provides gamers with an adrenaline-pumping experience, and one that is apparently quite faithful to Woo’s work according to long-time fans, although as someone who hasn’t seen his films, I can’t vouch...

Fragland
7 June 2012
  • Excerpt: I could go on for hours about the reliability issues of Microsoft’s Xbox 360, but I’ll limit myself to this introduction. Exactly twenty-five minutes after playing Stranglehold for the very first time, my Xbox decided to give up on me by means of the infamous Red Ring of Death.

True achievements
30 May 2011
  • Conclusion: Hard-boiled is extremely difficult, but in the end more just tedious as opposed to frustrating. Nothing overly remarkable aside from the Stand-off moments, which are arguably the best part.

John Woo Presents: Stranglehold Xbox 360 Review

Console Obsession
30 May 2010
  • Excerpt: John Woo’s films are all about messy and graceful shootouts. Messy because there’s always lots of bodies and obliterated environments, and graceful because of the directors trademark slow motion effect and the presence of doves. All perfect subject matter for a destructive action game then.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars 360 Review

AtomicGamer
2 June 2008
  • Excerpt: While they've never said it, id Software, Activision, and developer Splash Damage have likely had a frustrating year in dealing with the Quake franchise. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars was the next big thing in online shooters when it was released on the PC in early October last year, but the game and...

Xbox Evolved
26 November 2007
  • Summary: Sadly my feelings on this game aren’t exactly black and white, just a ton of grey. The engine itself and the process of blowing up an entire level is just so damn awesome that it’s hard to think this is a flawed game until I remember the shootouts.
  • Pros: Looks Great, Physics are Top Notch, Helps Ease Itchy Trigger Fingers
  • Cons: Confusing Puzzles, Mind-numbing Repetition, Frustrating Shootouts

John Woo Presents Stranglehold Review

Xbox 360 achievements
17 November 2007
  • Conclusion: I’d love to score the game higher, as it does so much right throughout the game, and it’s certainly one of the most enjoyable shooters you can find on the Xbox 360. However, a fairly short campaign, poor multiplayer games and no real incentive to play through more than once except for achievements...
