Woo's stylized violence comes to interactive life.

Common Sense Media
29 February 2008
  • Summary: Parents need to know that the game glorifies violence in a graphic and, some would say, irresponsible manner; and the game's central message is that one badass cop can take down entire crime families with firepower. Not a real-world lesson, but one you can find on the silver screen. The game lets you jump in various directions and shoot bad guys in slow motion.

John Woo Presents: Stranglehold

Gamecell
14 July 2008
  • Conclusion: You play Tequila, a “take no-prisoners” cop waging a personal war with Hong Kong crime lords and their gangs. Tequila's ex-wife and daughter are kidnapped by one of the gangs and that sets you off on a righteous killing spree that’s spread over 7 chapters that take you from Hong Kong to Chicago.
  • Pros: An all-action shooter, Well-presented, Stylish cutscenes, John Woo as a shopkeeper, The music – a wonderful theme runs throughout the game, Cause amazing amounts of carnage
  • Cons: Too much style and not enough substance, Tequila sometimes has a mind of his own, There’s just too much relentless action, Multiplayer seems like an afterthought, Annoying “glinting” interactive objects, Tequila throws grenades like a girl

Stranglehold

Gameplayer
25 September 2007
