Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II
9 November 2010
Conclusion: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 is something of a blot on LucasArts track record, which encompasses an extensive library of brilliant games we've cherished for years. C'mon guys, you are the reason we have excellent games such as Monkey Island, Knights of the Old Republic, Sam & Max, Indiana Jones, the Jedi Knight series and so on. Surely, you can do better than produce a half-baked franchise-milking action adventure.
Pros: Great visuals, great voice acting and cool (very familiar) Star Wars soundtrack, tossing enemies and objects around is still fun;
Cons: Unacceptably short campaign, little to entangle players beyond the usual destructive and overpowering abilities of the main character, weak story and characters.
Excerpt: I’m going to come swinging right out the gate here and say I wasn’t much impressed with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. It’s repetitive, the combat is frustrating and unresponsive, production values are all over the place, and it’s a very short experience.
Excerpt: Dual lightsabers, disposable stormtroopers and an ominous overture: welcome to The Force Unleashed II or, the return of Starkiller, Calvin Klein jaw and shorn hair intact. While the developers do their best to justify the existence of this sequel, the narrative never ascends to the heights of its predecessor.
Conclusion: The Force Unleashed 2 should honestly have never been made. There is very little content and even less creativity to speak of, the gameplay problems from the first game have not been properly solved, and the story is a blemish on the Star Wars franchise.
Excerpt: The Force Unleashed 2 is not a good game. That may be a very direct and straightforward statement, but it is true nonetheless. It may have the looks and core gameplay to be interesting in the shortest of short bursts, but other than that it is vacuous of anything to hold attention or entertain. So how did things turn out so bad? It could be the distinct lack of ambition; it’s a short game, almost 1/3 the size of the original.
Conclusion: Coming in at about 4-5 hours, this is hardly worth the money, and there’s very little I can recommend about this title. The ending is undefined, unsatisfying and open, screaming for another sequel, and the entire project feels like the developers had their eyes on wrapping this as soon as possible so they could start work of The Force Unleashed III. I can’t even begin to describe how disappointed I was with this sequel.
