Conclusion: SoulCalibur V offers up a brilliantly complete package of features and modes for you to play through. There is a simple story mode which focuses on Patroklos and Pyrrha, two of the main protagonists in this installment. There’s not much to this mode, just a series of battles bookended by cutscenes, but you’ll probably want to go through it anyway since a good portion of the game’s unlockable content comes from this mode.
Excerpt: I've invested a great deal of my life in Chun-Li and the gang in Street Fighter IV . I've had some memorable experiences, meeting new faces and connecting with old ones that I haven't seen in years. Along the way, I've even reveled in some rather witty catchphrases, such as "You mad, bro?", "Stay free!", and my personal favorite: "bodied." Needless to say, it's been a great journey, but after three years, I reached a point where I needed to switch things up a bit.
Conclusion: Faster, flashier and every bit as accessible as before, Soul Calibur V is the sequel the series needed. Some design choices might leave you scratching your head and the lack of a few favourites will irk returning fans, particularly Talim and Zasalamel players where no similar alternatives exist.
Excerpt: Patroklos viewed his opponent with a steely gaze: Sure, his enemy was nine feet tall, wore armour as thick as the portcullis of a large fort and carried a sword that was about the size of a small house, but that had never stopped Patroklos before. On his side was his confidence (which many viewed as arrogance), his stunning good looks, justice and an almost unnatural talent with sword and shield.
Excerpt: A beautiful sense of movement has always made the SoulCalibur games stand apart from other fighters. More than just Tekken with swords, SoulCalibur characters cut though each other with circular motions and interconnected arcs of force. Conceptually, that’s an obvious approach for a fighting game in which giant blades swing about. But the series, now revived with SoulCalibur V , makes the action flow .
Conclusion: Soul Calibur V is an assured return for the franchise that boasts a robust roster of fighters, a good selection of modes and the best visuals yet seen in the series. There's more in the gameplay system itself to tempt Street Fighter IV fans with Critical Edge, Brave Edge moves and whatnot, and the array of options presented by the character creation suite are superb.
Conclusion: Soul Calibur 5 ist er beste Serienteil seit Jahren.
