Conclusion: Lastly don’t forget the staple of a Serious Sam game…..co-op! You can play with up to 4 people online & locally. Serious Sam 3: BFE becomes oh so less serious when played with others. Overall it’s a great addition to the franchise, it isn’t giving us anything new but it stands high & proud as a very good game even if the pricing is a bit suspect.
Summary: : Serious Sam 3: BFE is a welcome addition to the 360 library, harkening back to the “old days”Â of first person shooters in a way that’s intense and pulse pounding, and while the game isn’t a must have title, genre fans will find it worth the money. The plot’s not bad at all relative to the subject matter and does it’s job fine, and the game looks and sounds very nice overall.
Summary: Despite its shortcomings, Serious Sam 3: BFE earns bonus points for embracing a philosophy of over-the-top fun, just like its predecessors.
Pros: Puts over-the-top fun ahead of everything else, Environments are huge, well laid out, Contextual melee executions are a nice touch, Wave-based Survival mode is a perfect addition for this series, Did I mention how much fun it is?
Cons: Repetitive environments foster repetitive gameplay, Lack of directional markers make it easy to get lost, Gets off to a slow start
Conclusion: In attempting to bring Sam’s visuals up to more our modern and gritty standards, a small amount of screen tearing has been accepted. It’s a damned shame. For the most part, BFE is a slick killer of a mad-assed shoot-’em-up that just wants you to enjoy employing proper arcade skills in 3D locations – and jolly tasty it is, too. Bizarrely it also requires more thought than those raised on Call of Duty will be used to, so get past the dull beginning and drink deeply.
