On the war-torn planets of tomorrow, mankind’s greatest battle is about to begin. With its’ frontier colonies devastated by a growing insurrection, Earth dispatches the elite 8th Armored Infantry (nicknamed Section 8) to repel the coming onslaught.Section 8 is a sci-fi first person shooter delivering the ultimate multiplayer experience. Shattering the worn-out clichs of the genre, players determine their own role in combat through customization of weapons and armor an…
Section 8 is a worthy addition to the 360’s library. However, it's fighting an uphill battle against its most damaging drawback; that without enough players willing to try it, its carefully-planned multiplayer is doomed to failure. So come on Halo fans; Section 8 is fast, fun and has more than enough excellent multiplayer action for those of you willing give it a chance. Don’t let this one slip under your radar. Read more
The lack of a proper single-player experience (it's an extended multiplayer tutorial and nothing else) and the poor graphics will prevent Section 8 from achieving huge success and high review scores, but the core multiplayer gameplay should ensure a healthy and loyal following for a while at least. A lot of FPS’s go for some sort of gimmick. The genre is so solidified, saturated, and standardized that to have any sort of success it has to do something different or unique, and to do it really well.Section 8 is actually very much a lot like other shooters; the fact that you are a space marine with two health bars, one including shields, is the first clue. But it does have some quirks. The most noticeable difference is respawning, something you’d never think would... Read more
Overall, Section 8 is a good game, even if it has some bad parts, like the need of a dedicated server for more than 16 players, the poor control of vehicles, and its lack of variety in maps. I’d recommend it anyway because it’s considerably better than many of its kind and probably one of the best. The single player campaign itself is not too bad as well and the multiplayer will have you continuously coming back for more. Unfortunately with no rewards for leveling... Read more
"Section 8", like 'Shadowrun', promises a lot, but ultimately fails a little thanks to some poor design choices. There’s a huge number of customisation options- but no real incentive to do so. There’s large maps, but thanks to the odd way to search for a server, you end up facing bots half the time. There could be a good single player out there somewhere, but it’s buried in what feels more like a training suite. However, if you can find a map that has a decent... Read more
This is one of those games where if you've played the demo, you basically played the game. The demo itself doesn't shed any light on the story, but instead pits you into Multiplayer action. From there, multiplayer is just a "King of the Hill" type game with some mini-game elements thrown in. So before you buy, give the demo a try and you'll see what I mean. When I got this game as a gift, I was a little surprised to see how symmetrical the story is to the multiplayer... Read more
This game had great expectations and promise, and for some of the online functions, it probably delivered. But for those of us looking to the single player, this game has been the worst let-down I have encurred in 15 years of gaming. The controls are edgy, touchy, and cumbersome; gameplay left me absolutely shocked and disappointed, but the multi-player was fun for the most part which kept me from using the game as an airsoft target in the back yard. Overall, this was... Read more
