Excerpt: The Xbox LIVE Arcade House Party promotion is well underway, promoting some great little titles in the eventual lead up to the remake of Perfect Dark due out at the end of the month along with the release of Games Room. Tower Defence game, Toy Soldiers, kicked off proceedings very nicely indeed but this week’s game, Scrap Metal is probably the weak link in the House Party lineup but still an excellent game.
Summary: Drift around corners with guns blazing and take out legendary competitors in the fast-paced, top-down racer, Scrap Metal! Fight your way through explosive, action-packed missions and defeat cunning bosses to add their vehicles to your garage.
Conclusion: The gameplay and idea behind it might be old and used much before, but it has been blended and mixed, to make it a unique game. It also feels like this game has been tested thoroughly, as the game feels strong, the loading times are pretty fast and as mentioned, I haven’t experienced any problems with the game.
Summary: Scrap Metal is a fun update to the arcade racing and shooting genre. Bright colors and cool vehicles keep the action interesting, even when the sound effects grow bland. There are a lot of various race modes to challenge you, but not much to the story other than a need to race. Some good multiplayer options will keep you coming back for more, but the price is a little steep for an Arcade game.
Summary: " Scrap Metal " is a pretty cool game that tries really hard, and very nearly succeeds. Some of the problems are endemic to the majority of XBLA games- namely few people play them online within a few weeks of the game going up, but others, like the somewhat generic and overly tough boss fights are definitely problems with the development, whilst there’s no good reason this game is 1200 points when Perfect Dark is 800.
Excerpt: Scrap Metal ’s a reminder of why top-down viewpoints have been abandoned on modern consoles. While it achieves a familiar perspective sufficiently, it doesn’t make a very strong case for its hectic blend of racing and car-combat. Nonetheless, for players pining for the old school appeal of games like R.C. Pro AM and Rock ‘n Roll Racing , Scrap Metal ’s the next best thing and is unrivaled on the Xbox 360.
