List All 4 PricesAs the King of Iolcus, Jason had everything—a prosperous kingdom, the respect of his peers, and a beautiful fiancée. When she was killed on their wedding day, he vowed to do anything to restore her life. Now, in order to accomplish this heroic feat, Jason must seek out the Golden Fleece, and with the help of Greek mythology’s greatest heroes, set sail on the most epic voyage of all in Rise of the Argonauts™ . This action/RPG immerses players in a gladiatorial adventu…
The story of the Argonauts takes place a few years before the events of the Trojan War. At one point in the story, the Argonauts were said to have been composed of over 50 different heroes from across the Greek mainland. Read more
But there are countless little lapses, beginning with awkward idle animations and lips that don’t always move during cut scenes and ending with bigger things. We love that you can skip lines of dialogue with a button press, but that same button will end the cut scene early if there’s no remaining dialogue to skip through. We missed a critical plot development early on because of this, and when we reloaded our save game and tried again, the game simply skipped over... Read more
Rise of the Argonauts had the potential of being a great game. Taking aspects from some of the beloved games of the past was a good idea, but at times it seems to be fighting each other for control on what game it is trying to be. The final package is still good, but if you were planning on it being the next big thing, you may be disappointed. Read more
Par for the course -- Jason does the heavy lifting in combat. For Jason, the classic hero of Greek myth and the central figure in Rise of the Argonauts , "choice" is a core action. In order to search for the Golden Fleece, which may bring his wife back to life, Jason must make a raft of choices. Who will guide his kingdom in his absence? What route will he take to the possible mythical resting place of the Fleece? How will he curry favor with his four patron gods? Read more
As someone who's a fan of classic mythology, I've often wondered why developers don't tap these vast sources of inspiration more often. If I took all the games that star a generic space marine and stacked them one atop the other, I'd be able to climb to the moon twice over, yet history has thousands of years of unused stories that can be every bit as interesting and exciting as anything involving aliens or chainsaws. Clearly, I'm not the only person in the games industry... Read more
I enjoyed this review. For once a review actually helped me to make a decision. I think I’d like this game. Sounds like the stop and go action of Shadow of Rome. But the “go” outweighs the “stop.” Read more
The swords and sandals (S&S) genre is a sorely undernourished one in the world of gaming as people prefer to shoot terrorists and space marines. This is a shame as the world of mythology is a rich one. S&S games can be about your average Roman soldier, but in most cases the world of Gods are used. Ultraviolent games such as 'God of War' have shown the scale that the genre can bring, whilst the likes of 'Viking' and 'Conan' were underappreciated, but great fun when I... Read more
A very good, "God of War" & Bioware inspired, RPG / Action hybrid with high production values (music, levels, voice acting, etc), but there is way too little combat opportunities and the game is just too short in story length. There were some frame rate bugs and minor cut-scene and audio glitches (at least on the copy I own). Overall, I enjoyed the experience from start to finish and think with a little more polish this could have been an A list title by anyone's... Read more or see product
Fun: First of all, its a re-imagining of the story of Jason and the Argonauts - they've delierately altered events and characters, probably in an attempt to avoid cliches. But that's just it - it bares hardly any relevance to the original myth. No harpies. No Clashing cliffs. No high seas exploration. The combat system is not bad, but battles are few and far between - you spend most of the game talking and talking and talking. Of course, all RPGs have a lot of talking,... Read more or see product
