Conclusion: Overall a good game in my opinion, fun in multiplayer, but not a very high re-play value. *Single player review* Pros: -Easy to pick up and play for a few mintues at a time or for an hour or two. -Voice acting/story doesnt take itself too seriously which fits the game perfectly. -Controls are tight. -You get to blow **** up!!!!! -Can upgrade your vehicle and stats. -You can pilot a helicopter which is a ton of fun. -Different characters with special abilities.
Excerpt: When a game adopts a floppy disk as its save symbol, you know you're in for an old-school experience. It's not as if you'll need the hint, mind you; Avalanche Studios' Renegade Ops is a top-down twin stick shooter that finds you committing arcade genocide, mowing down entire armies of bad guys in your bullet-spewing death car.
Conclusion: This video game is a VIDEO GAME. It knows where it’s coming from and what it wants to be, and achieves it perfectly. It’s the kind of game that ends with someone punching a woman in the face. The kind of game where good guys don’t look at explosions. The kind of game that results in an absolute, amazing sense of chaos when it can get all 4 players in and, despite a few flaws, it’s the kind of game that reminds you that games don’t have to be high art, philosophical...
Conclusion: Must- buy though? Now there’s the question. The demo’s out so you’re free to try it, and things don’t really change that much over the nine levels so you’ll know if it’s a game for you. If you like crazy shooters and have a friend on standby to play with I can’t think of a reason you wouldn’t have as much fun with Renegade Ops as I did. Yes, I even liked the nutzoid story. What can I say, I’m a sucker for impressive beards.
Excerpt: Renegade Ops review Game Over Online - http://www.game-over.com Renegade Ops is one of those games that found something interesting and decided to do that one thing really, really well. In this case it took the dual stick controls from Geometry Wars and threw them into a beautifully realized world with 4-player co-op and a fun, over-the-top G.I. Joe-esque story.
Summary: Renegade Ops puts players in a mobile commando unit sent behind enemy lines to defeat Inferno, a madman intent on global domination. Defeat enemies across a range of stunning environments using a wide variety of vehicles, from dispersing electromagnetic shock waves to the deployment of a huge Gatling gun armed to the teeth.
Excerpt: It is no secret that Avalanche Studios is officially on my ‘watch’ list when it comes to developers. I mean, these are the guys that churned out Just Cause 2, which was one of the last games I sank...
Pros: + Co-op is a blast, + Spot-on controls, + Explosions are fantastic, + Great diversity
Cons: Levels can drag on, Voice acting is terrible
Excerpt: Sometimes, doing what's right means breaking the rules. Nobody understands this better than the members of Renegade Ops, a four-person squad of drivers who use their heavily armed vehicles to battle the forces of evil when the world's superpowers fail to do so. In Renegade Ops, you do what needs to be done, meting out explosive justice to the armies of a terrorist named Inferno.
Pros: Excellent controls make driving around fun, Combat is fast paced and exciting, Upgrade system offers nice rewards for your progress, Great visuals create impressive sense of movement and scale
Cons: Minor technical issues interfere with online multiplayer, Not much variety
