Summary: Originally released in arcades between 1996 and 1998, the three Raiden Fighters games were conventional but very solid vertically scrolling shooters. Now, all three titles have been compiled and released as Raiden Fighters Aces, and the quality of these games makes them as competent now as they were back in the day.
Pros: Three solid arcade shooters at one low price, Can be enjoyed by players of all skill levels, Arcade-perfect emulation
Cons: Only about an hour of actual game content, No online cooperative play
Conclusion: I missed the three games in the Raiden series; by the time they came along, I was out of college and not frequenting arcades like I once had. And considering that none of the series made it onto consoles, it’s easy to see why I missed it. It’s too bad I did, because that old Raiden love comes through, though with some interesting twists on the old classic.
