Conclusion: For those of you that do care, you can hook up with other players on Xbox LIVE and do a jigsaw together or you can invite friends round for a raucous fun time. Who needs Guitar Hero or Rock Band, eh? If, by chance you do love jigsaws puzzles and you’ve been waiting, praying for the definitive jigsaw puzzle game, then look no further, Puzzle Arcade is it.
Conclusion: It's a mix of various easy listening styles, probably repetitive, but very smartly matched to the game. I'm giving this game 3 stars. It definitely lost at least two stars for the save erasing glitches; without those, this would've been an all round enjoyable experience, if just a little boring at times. If you love jigsaws, and are patient, this is for you!
Excerpt: While playing Puzzle Arcade lots of things will go through your mind, but the one thought we couldn't shake was "why are we playing this on a video game console?". For all that Puzzle Arcade does well, especially in terms of presentation, you are solving jigsaw puzzles in a video game, probably on a TV that's too small for the job, while a perfectly good table is in close proximity. Puzzle Arcade might find an audience, but it's very niche.
Summary: " Puzzle Arcade " has proven to be a real surprise especially with the amount of content on offer. It is not without it’s faults especially when trying to complete the larger puzzles and the fact that it still doesn’t feel best suited to the Xbox controllers.
Conclusion: All in all, it’s a fair representation of puzzle games on the Xbox 360. However, I feel that virtual puzzle games should be left to the PC where you can control them more precisely with a mouse. Also, there’s only so much you can do with a puzzle title so for 800 Microsoft points, you might want to spent the 10 dollars on a few, real puzzles and invite a few friends over. The couple hundred times you’ll try to fit pieces together will undoubtedly throw you over the edge.
Conclusion: We’ve seen so many seemingly pointless arcade games over the last 3 years but Puzzle Arcade is amongst the most the ‘puzzling’ of them all. Can an already generally dull activity become worth 800 points let alone several hours of your time?
Excerpt: A puzzle game (in the traditional jigsaw sense) for the XBLA. Good work on the controls and on the board, but the virtual media is simply not suited to such a game style. After a larger puzzle your eyes will hurt from the strain of peering at the screen, and the fun seems to have been lost. Puzzles are just more fun when you build them around a big table with friends and family.
Pros: Good controls. Crisp graphics.
Cons: Not that much fun. Will leave your eyes sore.
Summary: It's not a bad game for occupying a few hours at a time but if you played this for the long haul there is a chance that some sort of game-induced coma would result and you'd need to be fed through a straw for the rest of your days.
