Hydrophobia Pure Xbox 360 Review

Console Obsession
8 February 2011
  • Excerpt: Hydrophobia has had a bit of a rough time in regards to the amount of criticism that it has received, although developer Dark Energy Digital certainly didn’t take this criticism lightly and have taken a long, hard look at the game to see what could be fixed. A simple 4mb patch can do an amazing amount of things and I have nothing but good words to say about the amount of effort and research which must have went into all of the improvements found inside the Pure patch.

Pure (Xbox 360) Review

411mania.com
10 July 2009
  • Summary: Pure puts quite an interesting twist on the arcade off-road style racing genre, something that was needed if this game was to stand out amongst the pack. Pure does a lot of things right, and will definitely make your jaw drop the first time you go airborne near 100 feet in the air. When it comes to creating memorable moments, Pure has it down perfectly.

  • Conclusion: Despite the game being associated with the SSX titles, we can’t deny the fact that Pure is an incredible reproduction of extreme sport. The game provides high adrenaline entertainment with its raucous music and impressive trick system. The action is very intense and at the same time, unbelievably smooth. What makes Pure so interesting is the intuitive risk-versus-rewards system that has you instituting decisions on the fly.

Pure

Operation Sports
7 October 2008
  • Excerpt: Pure is the latest ATV entry on the 360, and it comes from Black Rock Studio and Disney Interactive. The game revolves around stringing together long sequences of tricks and catching a massive amount of completely over-the-top air in some seriously gorgeous environments.
  • Pros: Trick system is fun and fluid., Graphics are gorgeaous., Online play is smooth and enjoyable.
  • Cons: Has the depth of a kiddie pool., Fun factor wears off rather quickly., Bike construction interface is a bit clumsy.

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: At worst, this is one of the best rental options this year. It doesn't have the depth or longevity of the big simulation racers but for sheer hair-raising off road action, a new franchise is born. Grow a mullet, get some kahunas and change your name to Cletus - this is grievous bodily petrol. Supped up lawnmowers have never been so much fun!

GameSpot

  • Summary: All-terrain vehicles are something of a niche interest, but you don't need to care about them in the least to enjoy Pure. All you need is an appreciation for breathtaking environments and intense racing action. In Pure, Black Rock Studio has crafted an accessible, wildly tricked-out game that may feel a bit familiar, but it pulls off its concept so well that you won't mind feeling like you've danced with this lady before.
  • Pros: Breathtaking environments, Trick system is straightforward and compelling, Good track variety, Excellent online play
  • Cons: Doesn't offer much in the way of originality
