Portal

GamesRadar
7 August 2012
  • Excerpt: The atmosphere, meanwhile, grows thickly sinister. Your sing-song robot guide GLaDOS (you'll find out what it stands for) doesn't seem unduly invested in keeping you alive. Soon her own delusions creep into her instructions to you. "The weighted companion cube," she announces as you snatch up a box, "will not threaten to stab you and cannot, in fact, talk. If the weighted companion cube does talk, the Enrichment Centre urges you to disregard its advice.
  • Pros: Amazing puzzles/gameplay, GLaDOS is hysterical, Beautifully trippy
  • Cons: Really really short, May make you feel dumb, Waiting for Portal 2

  • Conclusion: So short that you can beat it in less then three hours (that's how much it took me on my first try). So once you beat it, you will be begging for more. So that's portal, one of the best and funniest games ever created. If you don't know about it, you should definitely go and play this game and discover if The cake is really a lie.

Portal: Still Alive Review

PlayDevil
29 October 2008
  • Summary: Valve have produced a stroke of genius with the cleverness of the Portal games and the sheer brilliance of the story and the humour used throughout. It goes without saying that " Portal: Still Alive " is quite literally a gaming masterpiece and for an XBLA title this stands out as one of the best releases yet on the service.

Portal: Still Alive Review

IGN Entertainment
23 October 2008
  • Conclusion: The puzzles of Portal can be very challenging. It’s never so simple as opening portals on opposite sides of a hazard to cross it. You’ll have to play with switches weighted objects and the physics that affect them to defeat more complex obstacles like gun turrets and laser gates. Even if you don’t like puzzle games, it’s quite possible you’ll love this. It’s challenging yet never cheap and it takes a combination of thought and action to complete.

  • Conclusion: Portal's blend of first-person, action, and puzzle elements marked by wry psychology and facetious dialogue make for a one-of-a-kind experience. Bolster this package with Still Alive's 14 new, more difficult levels and this is a game that shouldn't be missed.
