Conclusion: Poker Smash is easily my favorite XBLA at the moment, and that's before considering the online portion (which isn't all that active). It's got many unlockables and hard enough achievements to keep you playing for a long time, but don't fret, it's got the gameplay to make you want to devote those hours.
Excerpt: You’ve heard it before, and you’ll hear it every time a developer comes out with an XBox 360 Arcade puzzle game: there are just too many. It seems as if there’s a puzzle game for every walk of life: Bejeweled 2 for the familiarized casual crowd, Puzzle Quest for the RPG touch, Hexic HD for the single-player enthusiast (and cheapskate if you’re still playing the one the console came with!), and the list goes on.
Excerpt: Poker Smash is a terribly misleading title for a game that has less in common with Texas hold 'em than Bejeweled. Don't let the name or the 52-card aesthetic fool you--this is a puzzle game, straight up, and though the pieces all look familiar, Poker Smash assembles them in a way that feels fresh.
Pros: Gameplay is simultaneously fresh and familiar, Manages a really strong balance between accessibility and depth, Dual-analog controls make gameplay feel more dynamic
Excerpt: Wombat alluded to it, but Poker Smash is not bad at all. In fact it's easily one of the best puzzle games on Xbox Live Arcade! Big words for a simple match-3, but the presentation values, controls and fun factor really come together to make this a solid title.
Conclusion: With the recent explosion in popularity of all things Texas Hold ‘em, it’s refreshing to experience a Poker related game outside of the 100′s of tournament clones around today. Void Star Creations’ Poker Smash is a welcomed addition to Xbox LIVE Arcade and one that has definitely proved a smash! Poker Smash is a “rising block” puzzle game with each block being a playing card from 10 through to Ace.
