Peggle

Peggle is a game developed by PopCap Games for the Xbox 360 and features a colorful 2D background that is filled with different colored "pegs". It features orange pegs, blue pegs (which have no effect other than increasing the score), purple pegs (which are worth 50 times the amount of the blue pegs), and green pegs (which activate a power-up based on the character the player has selected). The objective in each level is to clear all of the orange pegs by hitting them with a ball shot from the top of the screen. Strategy is applied to bounce the ball off pegs and other obstacles to clear as much of the pegs with the given number of balls. This game even has an option for those who are color blind which adds a triangle to the green pegs and a plus to the purple pegs to make them easier to distinguish. This game has an ESRB: Everyone (E) rating.

Features

Peggle combines elements of pinball, pool and pachinko. The game challenges players to use skill, strategy and luck to clear progressively more difficult levels of orange pegs by firing a small silver ball from the top of the screen. The game features stationary and moving obstacles along with numerous power-ups and special effects combine with dynamically-assigned peg colors. The game also features single-player mode, which consist of 55 levels of ball-bouncing madness, 10 unlockable Peggle Masters, 75 Challenge mode levels, as well as Quick Play Mode and more. Peggle also has two different multiplayer modes, letting the gamer experience Peggle competitively online for the first time ever (TrueSkill™ ranked or player match). The multiplayer mode consists of 2-player Duel Mode, which is playable locally or over Xbox LIVE, and a 4-player Peg Party Mode, which is playable over Xbox LIVE. The game also features online leader boards which spans single player and multiplayer modes, and allows for instant replays of the highest scoring shots to learn a thing or two from true Peggle masters. The game also features 12 Xbox LIVE Achievements, downloadable content support and can be played in 720p high definition graphics and surround sound. Other features on the game are animated backdrops that set the mood for a gamer’s favorite character and a chance for trial experience featuring Adventure, Quick Play and Challenge Modes, which allows players to try out 3 of the 10 available Peggle Masters.

Though the unicorn today is mainly seen as a normal horse with a horn on its forehead, the traditional unicorn of folk tales also had a billy-goat’s beard, a lion’s tail, and cloven hooves to further distinguish it from normal horses. Read more

Peggle is what every casual game wishes it could be – popular with the entire spectrum of gamers instead of just casual gamers who visit shockwave.com on their lunch break and play Bejeweled for free for 30 minutes. Peggle began life as a PC game, but after seeing a successful sequel it is available for DS and 360 as well. The 360 version is a straight port of the PC original (no Peggle Nights content here like you can find on the DS version, but it costs $20 less so... Read more

Fortunately, this doesn’t detract too much away from the sheer quality of the core of the game. Its simple aim-and-shoot mechanics draws you in for repeated plays and with the short completion times needed to complete levels, you can easily fall prey to ‘Just One More’ Syndrome. A well-intentioned half hour pick-up-and-play session can easily turn into a six hour all-nighter if you get seduced by the lure of the online high score charts and just have to break that... Between the world’s worst mascots and the range of boards you have all the variety you need. It’s hard for most players to describe why Peggle is so good, but that’s because – like a slot machine – it’s addictive, and addiction isn’t a rational thing. It’s simple on paper and still pretty simple on screen; it should have been pushed a hundred times harder than it has – Peggle, more than You’re in the Movies, Scene It, or the NXE is the gateway drug... I can forgive some of the lame cartoon characters that serve as the guides in this game - they become so arbitrary in comparison to the whole package. And what a package Peggle is. The pachinko-on-drugs concept is simple. The execution is fantastic. It was a ton of fun on the iPod, and on a powerhouse like the XBox 360, the bells and whistles make this game even better. PopCap has become masters at making what videogames should be - fun, addictive, and dare I say it -... Read more
