Otomedius Excellent

Destructoid
2 September 2013
  • Summary: We don’t often have guest reviewers at Destructoid, because we need to offer the utmost credibility when analyzing a game in a critical light. However, there is no one more credible than my Uncle Nachos when it comes to the Gradius series. While I personally have been awaiting the series spiritual successor Otomedius Excellent since I saw it at E3 , this event means a lot more to my uncle, who is a dedicated fan of Konami’s shooter series.

Otomedius Excellent Review

GameZone
29 December 2011
  • Excerpt: I was admittedly a bit embarrassed when during my (ridiculous) E3 demo of Konami's Otomedius Excellent, I made the assumption that the game was a digital download. The rep was quick to assert that the game would see a full retail release, thankfully willing to ignore what my statement really implied, namely: "This game appears to be worth about five bucks." Thing is, I wasn't wrong.

  • Excerpt: Have you ever played any of the Gradius games for the regular NES or SNES? If so there may be something for you to like here, but for everyone else you will be sorely disappointed by what this game has to offer.Otomedius Excellent is a 2D side scrolling shooter that is “Inspired by the legendary Gradius” games from the past. In this game you take control of very attractive girls that pilot these one-person vehicles.
  • Pros: There truly isn’t a whole lot I can say positive about this game, I do applaud the fact that they were inspired by Gradius. There is a 2min opening theme for the game and it even allows you to follow along with the words (takes me back to the Pokemon days). At the character select screen you are able to customize your loadout of weapons and powerups, there isn’t a whole lot to choose from, but it gives a nice variety from lasers to force fields. However once you do ge...

Otomedius Excellent Review: Excellent Doesn’t Belong In This Game’s Title

Game Informer
9 November 2011
  • Conclusion: Concept: Take Gradius, add overt sexuality, and take away the majority of the fun Graphics: This game would have looked amazing in 1999 Sound: The music is a random assortment of techno that sometimes feels weird and out of place Playability: The pitiful starting weapons and slow ships make this a very difficult shooter to enjoy Entertainment: It’s embarrassing to play this game in a public setting Replay: Moderately High
