Summary: To sum up the entire review in a few sentences let’s just cut to the chase. The stages look great, background music helps the sound, but outside of that this game is a pass. I would encourage you to rent the game if you feel like you really need to play it, however, do not expect anything great out of it.
Excerpt: Bryce Boltzmann has a problem. He's been bestowed immortality after losing a duel with Astaroth, the Demon King… but had all of his reasons to live taken away from him at the same time. That was 500 years ago. Since then, he's become a demon hunter for hire who pretty much hates his eternal life.
Excerpt: Death is more of a minor annoyance for the modern video game character. Taking one too many bullets will usually just take you back five minutes in time. I’ve personally watched Uncharted ’s Nathan Drake die a hundred times in a dozen ways and each time he shook it off and told a joke. So, while NeverDead letting you play as an immortal character isn’t too odd, the fact that he can lose his limbs and keep going is.
Conclusion: Concept: You’re an undead badass who can rip off his own head and limbs. You must shoot and chop your way out of a demon apocalypse
Graphics: It’s a good-looking game marred by a poor camera and technical issues
Sound: Terrible voice acting, forgettable score, lots of explosions
Playability: The game’s hook – the fact that your body flies apart after any heavy attack – makes combat frustrating and messy.
Conclusion: Never Dead , the latest title from Rebellion is a third-person action game set in a fantasy and horror world. You play as Bryce Boltzman, cursed over five hundred years ago by the demon king Astaroth. Now the demons are returning and Bryce as a Demon Hunter must stop them.
Summary: When you're making a game with a lead character who can't die, you're left with a serious jeopardy deficit. NeverDead's problem was always going to be generating tension. Your partner, Arcadia, can die, triggering a game over, but it's unlikely. And her death would be desirable anyway - the banter between her and hero Bryce is cyclical, bottom-of-the-barrel sass.
Pros: Some incredible artwork
Cons: Appalling test of patience, No sense of progress, Very choppy frame rates, Consistently annoying
