Summary: NBA Live 06 is here just in time to get you pumped up for the NBA season. The biggest change this year is the addition of freestyle superstar controls that make great players such as Shaquille ONeal and Steve Nash play more like their real life counterparts. The rest of the game isnt too different from Live 2005, but the overall package is still an improvement and is highly recommended.
Conclusion: Electronic Arts pretty much nailed the majority of NBA Live 06 in this inaugural Xbox 360 effort, and other things were either rushed or just plain ignored. With smoother animation transitions, a better framerate, and a tad more pace, NBA Live 06 will look silly-good, as the rendering and motion capture is already there.
Conclusion: Superhero games are a challenge, there’s no question about it. Snowblind has pulled off a fairly successful translation of the comic books that we know and love, but the action gets stale pretty quickly. Taking full advantage of what the aging Xbox offers would have been Step One to true success, but there are other missing pieces in this puzzle. Aesthetically, the game is pleasing, but as we all know, that just isn’t enough these days.
Excerpt: NBA Live 06, an introduction. Whilst the NBA Live series has never been as popular as some of the other EA Sports range it's certainly popular in its own right and a firm favourite with NBA fans. It's a welcome sight then to see the series appear for the launch of the Xbox 360 and visually speaking it's a game that certainly doesn't disappoint.
Excerpt: It’s about this time of year that EA like to release all the sporting titles they’ve been crafting during the off season. Both types of football – Madden and FIFA – have already hit the streets, as has their NHL game which looks as reinvigorated as the hockey league itself does after missing last season. If you’ve been waiting patiently for the new NBA Live game, well..
Summary: So all in all, just stay away from the game. Download the demo for the visuals, and get NBA2K6 for your basketball needs. I don’t know what is wrong with Electronic Arts, but they will probably somehow get away with taking the modes out since tons of people like NBA Live anyways. Don’t be one of those suckers though, and stick to some of the better 360 launch titles instead.
Pros: The best looking sports game yet, by far.
Cons: A lot of modes taken out, just basically a tech demo.
Excerpt: There are always a few launch games that rely on their graphical superiority to push sales. Take NBA Live 2006 for example. It's a solid title right? Hell I gave the current-gen versions a respectable score of 7. There were plenty of gameplay modes, dynamite superstar moves, and my personal favourite: the Slam Dunk Contest. What more do you need? Now take a look at the 360 version.
Conclusion: All you need to do is up his abililtys to 99 and put him to play for the Spurs or Miami Heat. save and you have the achievement. Make sure you sim your season with the team that you put your created player in. I also had to sim the season 3 times but this could be just because i stayed the Chicago Bulls. Start hitting those 3 throws from downtown!
