Excerpt: NBA Ballers Chosen One on the Sony Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 comes to us from our good friends at Midway. This is an arcade style basketball game in the vein of NBA Jam (editor: for those that go back a few years). Plenty of NBA talent is included from a diverse array of time. No worries though as there are a lot of current players in this video game. After the NBA Finals players get together to participate in challenges to see who will be the Chosen One.
Summary: Parents need to know that that this is a very stripped down version of basketball featuring one-on-one or at most two-on-two games that only subtly resemble basketball. Fouls are only called for major offenses and the focus is more on doing tricks to fool your opponent rather than on team play. The sometimes over-glamorized world of professional sports is present here, but at a much lesser degree than one would expect from a game titled as this.
Conclusion: IF looking for a good basketball game get any old 2k sports NBA game for a cheap B-ball game, and the 2k6 generation games for really quick and easy 1000k GS. DO NOT PLAY! It will only decrease your achievement unlock ratio and leave you with either a broken controller or a very "unclean feeling" for having wasted your time and sanity.
Conclusion: In the audio front, the play-by-play commentary
from Chuck D is pretty good and we’re just glad
that he doesn’t repeat the script too often. The
sound effects fair better than most street ball
games out there but the musical piece is
somewhat subdued. It looks like the developer
has channeled most of their efforts into the
action on the court, leaving the audio anemities
with a few good soundtracks. Needless to say,
NBA Ballers: Chosen One is a solid basketball
Summary: Midway has done an excellent job with NBA Ballers: The Chosen One. Did it make me want to sell my Genesis and the original NBA JAM? No. I enjoy the Ballers franchise but with the inclusion of the Street Series I really have no preference of one over the other. While this is a great game in and of itself I would love to see Midway return to its roots and bring us a better formatted version that includes the NBA JAM stylings as I can’t see much more being added to this...
Excerpt: First Impressions My reaction is EA Sports and Midway take turns year in and year out in bringing us street basketball games. This year it is Midway’s turn with NBA Ballers: Chosen One. As far as history goes, the NBA Street series by EA Sports have been beating on Midway’s effort for years now.
