  • Excerpt: While real life basketball may have a few issues right now (the lockout, the Chris Paul debacle and LeDrama James), basketball games have enjoyed a resurgence in the last few years. The 2K series has been consistently better than EA's basketball sim, and this year's installment is better than ever.

Review: NBA 2K12

newgamernation.com
8 December 2011
  • Conclusion: The major flaw with the game is that the player customization isn’t as deep as some other games. With a massive sports game such as this, the overall customization feels like it takes a back seat to the gameplay. With that said, that’s not entirely a bad thing. The developers delivered a great NBA simulation game with both modern and classic representations of the game.

  • Excerpt: NBA 2K11 , last year’s iteration of the series, was simply a fantastic basketball game. In fact, in the Game-Over review ( http://www.game-over.com/reviews/xbox360/NBA_2K11.html ), I said it was the best sports game I had ever played. This was high praise, to say the least, as I’ve played many, many sports games in my lifetime.

NBA 2K12

Game Over Online
2 November 2011
  • Excerpt: Never has it been more important for fans to be given a top-notch virtual version of the game of NBA basketball. With labor talks dragging on and the 2011-2012 season in doubt (not to mention cut short already, at the very least), NBA fans are waiting for a new collective bargaining agreement to be signed so that we can again spend Thursday nights with the TVs tuned to TNT for the weekly NBA double-header.

  • Conclusion: NBA 2K12 is yet another great addition to the NBA 2K franchise, building upon the strengths of 2K11 with some worthy gameplay enhancements, Online isn't quite up to scratch, but My Player, NBA: Creating a Legend and Dynasty mode are all superb and will keep you playing at least until NBA 2K13 arrives.

Review: "NBA 2K12" Blends Old School and New Controls

complex.com
10 October 2011
  • Excerpt: Think about that for a moment, and let the irony seep into your brain. Real NBA players and owners are locked in a monetary dispute that seems to have no end in sight. And pixelated hoops wants to recreate this greediest of pro sports leagues? It makes about as much sense as a Lil Wayne-Tony Bennett collaboration.

NBA 2K12

oxmonline.com
4 October 2011
  • Excerpt: The NFL avoided its Madden-only fate this season by ending its league lockout before any real-life games were lost. The NBA, however? Well, it’s not looking too good. Fortunately, if the basketball burden for 2012 is to be borne by NBA 2K12, the returning-champ hoopster is more than up to the task of providing your NBA entertainment. Most notably, last year’s breakout Jordan Challenge mode returns in tweaked NBA Legends form.
  • Pros: + Brilliant presentation and simulation gameplay., + So many old-school players in NBA Legends mode, both known and obscure...
  • Cons: ? Will EA ever catch up to this? It’ll be an uphill climb, for sure.
