Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations

Square-Go
28 July 2012
  • Excerpt: When a shonen fighting anime is done correctly, it is pretty much uninterrupted awesomeness. You’ll be looking up clips on Youtube or scenes on a DVD to show off; you’ll know the moves, the cries, and by all that is holy, you will know the exact background music swell that means an almighty ass-whooping is on the cards. Unfortunately, games adapted from fighting anime tend to have issues with story and fail to capture what makes the original anime awesome.

  • Excerpt: If you like fighting games and you like Naruto, then you’ve come to the right place! Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations is the latest in a long line of the ‘Ultimate Ninja’ series and the second instalment released for the Xbox 360. Being a fan of the manga I’m really excited that it’s finally made its way over to our shores and if you’re a fan it doesn’t disappoint.

Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations – Review (Xbox 360)

Gametactics
25 April 2012
  • Conclusion: Definitely the best Naruto game I’ve ever played even though it doesn’t venture far outside its comfort zone it doesn’t really need to. The graphics are really well done, and the gameplay is quite fun and makes you feel like part of the game. The audio could’ve used some improvement but definitely doesn’t detract from the overall fun of the game.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations

27 March 2012
  • Conclusion: The latest Naruto Shippuden game still provides plenty of entertainment, not to mention looking and sounding great, but the decision to shift away from story and focus mainly on becoming an all out fighting game is an odd one considering the series heritage. Worth a look but for Naruto fans, Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations will feel a touch hollow.

  • Conclusion: Thanks to the tweaks to the substitution technique, the combat mechanics in Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations feel better than ever. But as a whole, this game is a minor refinement over the previous installments. Generations is still a solid fighter, but definitely leaves you wanting more variety in its modes.
  • Pros: Fluid animation supports vibrant art style, Solid online with spectator/replay support, Flashy and accessible combat system.
  • Cons: Streamlined story mode, Lacks dedicated tutorial, Younger characters feel redundant to older counterparts.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations

13 March 2012
  • Excerpt: CyberConnect2’s Naruto games have always been solid, and Generations should please fans by hosting characters from both the current Naruto story and pre-timeskip continuity. The game sports stunning cel-shaded graphics and fluid characters; one-on-one fights play out in free-roaming 3D arenas where you execute careful dashes, dodges, and special attacks using simple button combos.
  • Pros: + Gorgeous graphics are faithful to the source material., + Easy-to-learn combat, plus lots of extras to keep you going.
  • Cons: ? Why is the Sexy Jutsu criminally underused in this particular subseries?

  • Conclusion: Another year, another Naruto game. And while this one sticks to the established combat system of charging your Chakra reserves and then building simple combos with Shurikens, Ninjutsu and Ultimate Jutsu, the fan service (in this case of a non-sexual nature) is out in full force, with a handpicked cast of new and old characters in addition to a wealth of new cut-scenes that match the quality of the anime.
