SEGA Vintage Collection: Monster World

True achievements
3 June 2012
  • Conclusion: Although the games do not have any added features, they do have a rather inventive trials section instead of the simple score-based 'challenges' SEGA threw into the Golden Axe and Streets of Rage collections. My only gripe with this collection is that... alongside all the positives, the games are simply 'enjoyable' with no real outstanding qualities.

Sega Vintage Collection: Monster World

Total Xbox
1 June 2012
  • Excerpt: In the console days of yore, roleplayers seeking to avoid turn-based combat made do swinging blades and scrounging for coin in sidescrolling epics. Monster World turns back the clock and compiles three of these action-RPGs. Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Arcade, 1987) offers an inauspicious start, and not just because you begin your quest to slay a dragon clad only in underpants.
  • Pros: + Previously Japanese-only, + Useful ancillary features like image-smoothing and the ability to save anywhere.
  • Cons: - The two tougher (and rougher-looking), ? Why are oversized sentient mushrooms always bad guys?
