Good for PC if you enjoy 80s cop dramas

  • Summary: I played Max Payne obsessively for PC and a little on the PS2. While the controls were not ideal for console, the devs made it work.
  • Pros: Graphics/Sound w/ 5/7.1 system
  • Cons: Made for PC, feels like a port and dialogue

More hype than substance

Josh, Amazon
3 June 2012
  • Summary: Unless you are a diehard Max Payne fan, do yourself a favor and rent first. When I first started playing this game I was in awe. From the minute you start playing you are introduced to the slow motion gunplay, diving around shooting, etc. Walk into a room of badies, jump behind cover while shooting, clear the room of badies and move on to the next room. Unfortunately it became clear very quickly that this was all the game has to offer. Literally..

Probably had expectations set to high

Mark, Amazon
17 May 2012
  • Summary: General info: I loved the original two games as a teenager, the mechanics, the story, the darkness and voice acting were revolutionary for their day; and it was a long, long wait for Max to return, and given how much I enjoyed the previous two games my expectations where high (given the amount of money and hype rockstar poured into production) Likes: The game is very long, keeping in the Max tradition; I'm a fairly experienced gamer and the campaign took me 11 hours on...

Dull, scripted, movie game

Peter M, amazon.co.uk
10 October 2013
  • Summary: I was surprised by just how dull I found this game. I didn't think I would love it, but I thought I'd get some enjoyment from it, as should be the case in an action game. But instantly I'm shown cutscenes, and these just carry on. This is barely a game - it's just an animated movie in which you have to push forward and spam a trigger every now and again. Not recommended.

Style over substance

Rory Q, amazon.co.uk
22 September 2013
  • Summary: I'm not really sure what went wrong with this game. I would've thought to be onto a winner, all it had to do was keep the dry, biting wit and overblown melodrama of the first two games; maybe update the graphics a bit and come up with some new bullet time innovation. Unfortunately, alarm bells started ringing for me very early on. I watched the introduction/credits and opening cutscenes. I was still watching them about 10 minutes later.

So boring

Blancofied "Maurice", amazon.co.uk
16 November 2012
  • Summary: Wow, I usually love all Rockstar games and have never disliked them but this one.... oh my goodness. It's so boring and all you do is watch and watch and watch. You can't skip it when they talk for up to 10-15 minutes, you have to keep watching. The game is so stupid, it's just shooting all the time and jumping and shooting. Kinda like the game 'WET' with the same kind of controls. Yawn.
