Magic: The Gathering -- Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014
29 June 2013
Conclusion: Magic 2014 remains a great, convenient, and affordable way to enjoy this now 20-year old card game. Slivers are a lot of fun to command and sealed decks provide more freedom than ever to build your own army. The only issue is the clunky manner in which it runs. Every small screen change and player move seems to be a monumental effort for the engine. Still, I love the varying challenges this version throws at us and hope to be playing Magic 2015 in a year’s time.
Pros: Sealed play deck building, Slivers, Convenient way to enjoy Magic, New card animations

Conclusion: Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 is easily Stainless Games ’ best effort at providing an accessible, yet challenging version of Magic to date, and the new decks and improved gameplay are satisfying enough to trump most concerns arising from the new Plane chaser mode. Longtime fans will likely bristle at the continued absence of fully customizable decks, but Duels 2013 includes an impressive array of cards that somewhat makes up for this.

Excerpt: Part of what makes Magic so great is that with all the new cards always being released, you constantly have to shift your strategies and deck compositions. That complexity does make the game rather hard to get into, but fortunately for newcomers, Duels 2013 is a terrific intro to the classic CCG. Short of being taught in-person by an experienced player, Duels ’ in-depth tutorial is one of the best ways to learn the game.
Pros: + Great tutorial system and campaign modes., + Planechase and other multiplayer modes are fantastic.
Cons: ? How many people will turn to the physical game after getting their first taste from

Gamers Daily News

Summary: Essentially a $10 replacement for Magic 2012, it won’t win over those who have no interest in the card game or have already had their fill of this formula. Fans who still want more will find plenty to justify their purchase, especially those interested in the ’wild casual’ style of play encouraged in the new Planechase mode.

Excerpt: While many card games have burned brightly and fizzled out, Magic has been around for a long time and has a large fanbase around the world to this day. Let's be honest, people played Pokemon or Yugioh, grew out of those games, and then get the itch to wheel and deal again but most likely don't want to drop the cash on a card game they are unfamiliar with.
Magic The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 Review

Summary: " Magic the Gathering: Duel of the Planeswalkers 2012 " initially feels like it should have been DLC. True, there are some gameplay enhancements, and quite a few new cards and modes, but the core remains the same. However, I didn’t feel cheated by the price, as there is a great deal of content, and it refreshes the game as a whole. Some of the new modes are also pretty crazy, and really enjoyable.

Summary: Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 is a solid sequel, if not nearly a complete overhaul, to Stainless Games' original trading card game. This updated version provides much needed deck management, adds the popular Archenemy mode, and incorporates Challenges directly into the Campaign. A definite must for fans of Magic: The Gathering, or those curious to jump in.
