Excerpt: In Madden 12 , EA has focused on making a big leap forward in gameplay performance, visual appeal, and realism. The result is that some gamers will be dissatisfied with the lack of new gameplay modes, a laundry list of new “features,” or additional game modes. The more important result, however, is a game that feels as good on the field as any iteration to-date.
EA has an interesting and unique challenge in front of them each year.
Excerpt: EA has an interesting and unique challenge in front of them each year. They’ve got to put out a Madden game that does not deviate from the proven method of success, but that also contains enough improvements and new features to keep gamers happy and willing to shell out new money. Inevitably, there will always be criticism centered on complacency, lack of innovation, and the concept of “cashing-in” on another roster update.
Excerpt: American football, represented by the National Football League or NFL, is not a big sport in South Africa or the rest of the world since it’s only played in the United States, but somehow it attracts fans from all over the world. Reading over the new features of Madden NFL 12, however, got me really excited to dive back into the sport and with this latest edition of the franchise, EA has mostly tackled core gameplay issues that have plagued the series in the past.
Conclusion: A fun game with very few major flaws, but by the same token it brings absolutely nothing new to the table other than the welcome online community option and enhanced player traits and consistency. That aside you will be playing the same old Madden and on that front, Madden NFL 12 just doesn’t do enough to hold your interest for very long.
Excerpt: They say that football is a game of inches. That it's won and lost in the trenches and not by the flashy plays that make the highlight reels. The same could be said then for Madden . The long running football series is built year after year by small improvements, rather than game changing new features (I'm looking at you quarterback vision cone).
Conclusion: Other than the drastically improved collision system and Dynamic Player Performance making defense a whole lot better to play, there really hasn’t been much change in Madden. So if you’re someone who has purchased Madden NFL 11 at full price, there really isn’t much of a need to buy this one. It still has Madden Moments Online, Ultimate Team, Superstar, and a lot of other popular modes, so don’t fret that they weren’t covered–it’s because they haven’t changed.
Review: "Madden NFL 12" Is - For Better Or Worse - A Fleshed Out Iteration
6 September 2011
Excerpt: We know it’s cool to bash Madden and praise NFL 2K5 , but guess what? Much like a good, new Lauryn Hill song or a Greg Oden comeback, the chances are slim to none that 2K Sports will be making an NFL game anytime soon. Get over it and check out our highs and lows of Madden 12 .
Excerpt: Imagine this: There is a box. Inside is a chessboard, a deck of Pokémon cards, the yellow grid from a Connect Four set, a handful of Monopoly pieces, a Dungeons & Dragons Player’s Handbook with the index and glossary torn out, a NOW That’s What I Call Music! compilation, and some magazine advertisements for Gatorade. All these pieces can be used to play a game based around the NFL, but not the game of football.
Excerpt: My passion for the NFL goes back 25-30 years, so I have to admit I was absolutely sickened with the thought of not having a football season this year. I was just disgusted with both the players and the owners as they bickered over trivial issues for what seemed like months on end. But when the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement was ratified a few weeks ago, I was jumping for joy and all of the sudden my sights shifted on EA Sports’ latest instalment in the Madden NFL...
Excerpt: Be honest, you already have preconceived notions about this game. That’s fine, I get it. After all, it is an annual sports franchise that, for the most part, takes an incremental approach year in and year out. However, last year was no such year with the introduction of GameFlow and Game Planning. Sure, it might not have been a feature for everyone, but the impact it had on the game was as important as the introduction of Focus was to the Tiger Woods franchise.
