Excerpt: The Madden franchise has been a long-term success for Electronic Arts, the yearly updates refining and improving on the basic ideas established with the first game. It was the personal project of founder Trip Hawkins, with former NFL head coach and commentator John Madden helping to design the playbook. This latest offering has new modes and improvements, but does it still reflect the sport and give users a good game?
Excerpt: The end of summer, the start of fall, and the first mornings when you need to run back into the house to grab your coat. These landmark times can only mean one thing, it’s football season again, and more importantly, it’s Madden season again. The question is: does this year’s entry, Madden NFL 10, do enough to warrant your purchase? The answer is that you need to head out to your nearest retailer and pick this one up. And I’ll tell you why.
Summary: The people that buy Madden already have their copy by now, but for anyone else that is still skeptical about this year's offering, I would say that there is plenty here to warrant a purchase. The tagline for this year's game is "If it's in the NFL, it's in Madden 10" they do a very good job of holding up to that and with all the other additions I don't see where you can go wrong with buying Madden 10.
Excerpt: Typically, first-person shooters are pretty linear, taking the player through a set strand of missions to a final confrontation or cliffhanger ending, without little freedom afforded to the player in deciding how to reach their goal. With Far Cry 2, developer CRYTEK throws the textbooks out the window and shakes the genre up a bit, by creating one of the most sprawling and liberating shooters ever conceived.
Excerpt: It’s no longer okay to simply dismiss EA’s humongous Madden franchise outright as that video game of that massively complicated sport where mammoth-sized men covered in protective armour smash their helmets into each other like demented bison until one team falls down. You see, American Football is actually hugely popular in the UK. So much so, that Wembley Stadium has played host to two regular season games over the last couple of years. They both sold out.
Conclusion: It differs from the SuperSim you see in an exhibition game in that you can only sim till your superstar is on the field, but I think most gamers won't complain about that. Smart move, Madden. Smart move. I'm a big fan of Madden (I have the 2005 version for original Xbox), and I have to say, this is the best Madden yet! And, yet again, the only competition it has... is itself. Here's to another great year of football!
Summary: On-field authenticity and emotion is taken to another level in Madden NFL 10. With more control over the outcome of the play than ever before, players can drag defenders towards the first down marker, fight for a fumble at the bottom of the pile, and avoid the rush by stepping up into the pocket.PS3 Review - 'Madden NFL 10'
