Excerpt: Madden NFL 09 is a milestone edition of EA’s long running series, not because it has some revolutionary new features or anything like that, but 09 is actually the 20th edition and, as there’s been a new Madden annually since its debut in 1988, that means that the 20th edition marks the 20th anniversary of the series. Go Madden.
Excerpt: Has it really been that long? Madden NFL 09 marks the 20th anniversary of one of the world's most popular video game franchises and allows players to experience a real authentic NFL experience. With updated graphics and gameplay, Madden NFL 09 is once again the definitive American Football game and somehow EA Sports have upped the ante with this current incarnation.
Summary: Though I've been pining for a NFL 2K5 replacement for years, it feels odd to recommend a Madden game as that successor - but Madden NFL 09 is that game. EA has taken huge strides since dropping a so-so first 'next-gen' Madden on us, and, though they're still not quite hitting those 'target videos' they debuted it with, I can't help but recommend football fans finally let go of those well-worn copies of 2K5 and give Madden 09 a shot.
Conclusion: The games is fun and also has very easy achievements. If your looking for the next came to get over 500 gamerscore in then this is the game. This madden game lets the user control more of whats going on and also unlike real life you can go back and fix what you did wrong only once. Everyone get out there and get this game it is worth it!
Excerpt: In mid July a few of us GameBoyz staffers had a chance to demo some of EA Sports’ upcoming games at E3 in Los Angeles. One of the first games on our agenda, and one I was looking forward to, was Madden NFL 09. This year is a big year for the franchise as Madden is celebrating its 20th birthday. As such, my expectations were raised when I first gave the game a spin at E3.
Conclusion: Individually this game should be superb and if you’ve never played a previous version this should be your first point of call. However, taken as part of a continuous series, this is a fairly pointless offering as it offers very little in terms of innovation. The online mode aside, how long can people go on producing the same games, year after year and just slapping a new number on the box?
Conclusion: Fans of the franchise, this is another good entry in the series and worth your money. Rookies holding off because you’re not sure you can handle all the complexity do not worry. This game is flexible, you can jump in, play for 5 minutes and leave satisfied or you can sit down and play through an entire franchise with your friends. Go to the superbowl. Get your ring. And score with the cheerleaders.
