Conclusion: A few things I feel that I repeat release after release but year after year Madden delivers a great product while keeping the game up to date in terms of players and the their ratings and stats. And for the price that usually accompanies an outdated release it would be a bargain compared to the most recent release. This one was edition was a solid release and a great pickup.
Excerpt: Madden. The name brings up two images to many people’s minds: a rather large, obnoxious sports broadcaster with bushy eyebrows, or hordes of football-hungry gamers, looking for a way to spend the next months of their lives, away from work and family. Well, okay, that’s an exaggeration. But the fact of the matter is that many go crazy for Madden when it comes out, despite quality and despite lackluster showings in the past two iterations of the game.
Excerpt: Madden NFL 08 is one of the most disappointing football games I have played in a few years It has taken me quite some time to narrow down the main issue I have with this Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Playstation 2 video game (editor: other versions exist, but are not clumped into his awesome review). The football action does not feel like a real football game, and the Madden assistance for new comers is the opposite of helpful in most cases.
Conclusion: When it’s time to take Madden NFL 08 online, you’ll likely find a smooth, lag-free experience. The games run flawlessly over Xbox Live, and it’s got many of the bells and whistles (lobbies, stats, etc.) that we’ve come to expect. The developers also added a GameCast feature that will let you follow the world’s top players (setting up a Project Gotham TV-style feature for future years, perhaps?
Conclusion: Overall, Big Bang Mini is an extremely polished product. It is one of those rare games that anyone can get into. Newcomers to classic shoot’em-ups should have no trouble learning the controls, and there is enough variation and innovation to appeal to experienced, more hardcore gamers. The levels never feel stale despite the rinse-and-repeat ‘dodge, shoot, dodge’ aspect of the gameplay.
Excerpt: It was late in the 4th quarter; the Saints, pacing nervously along the red line, were down by a single touchdown with mere seconds left. The ball is hiked, the clock reaches zero, Reggie Bush gingerly accepts the hand-off and propels himself forward through a crack in the D, on his way to a well-deserved victory. At least, that was the plan.
Conclusion: This is the Madden that hardcore footballers have been waiting for. The rest of us should be sure to tone down the difficulty.
Pros: Because of the retooled fatigue system, long, grueling drives down the field will turn defenders' legs to Silly Putty, which makes it easier to trundle in for a score once you're in the red zone.
Cons: The linebackers will occasionally bend space and time to make impossible interceptions, and after a few too many turnovers, your throat will constrict when you drop back to pass.
