Excerpt: I have to say that when it comes to the sport of Mexican wrestling, also known as Lucha Libre, I am pretty much clueless when it comes to who is who, and what the sport is really all about. So when I was given the chance to review Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring, I was somewhat intrigued, but even a little lost, in terms of what a videogame based on this sport would entail.
Excerpt: You could say wrestling games haven’t changed much in the past ten years, and you’d be right. Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring is a prime example. Everything about it feels a little dated, all the way from the controls down to the presentation and barely adequate graphics. Luchadores are known for their speed and flashy maneuvers, but here everyone moves like a club-footed walrus.
Pros: + Hilariously bad commentary, as in so bad it’s good.
Cons: - Stiff, overly simplistic controls give no gameplay depth., - Linear story that doesn’t adequately reflect the rudo (heel)/tecnico (good guy) character customization., ? How does a fat man soar over the top rope when kicked in the head?
Conclusion: Based on the deep roster, entertaining story and my overall enjoyment (ie I had FUN playing this) I give it 4 stars DESPITE frustration and unecessary overkill of counters by the cpu and the matches where you pretty much only can counter. But then again I love wrestling so I may be a little biased.
