Halo-type game but tamer -- watch out for unmoderated chat.

Common Sense Media
5 July 2010
  • Summary: Parents need to know that Lost Planet 2 might be considered a tamer Halo , as they're both sci-fi shooters that lets you blast away aliens, but this one is a little less graphic. You must work together with friends to destory these critters and use all kinds of firepower to dispose of them. Parents should also know the game is heavily online-focused and those who chat with a headset might use profanity. Scantily clad female characters may also be a concern.

Lost Planet 2

ActionTrip

  • Conclusion: Essentially, every modern-day game can muster its own community of loyal supporters and players, providing the core gameplay is exciting enough. As it stands, Lost Planet 2 doesn't hold any features worth mentioning and brings little to no innovation over the original. After all I've seen and heard in Lost Planet 2, I can safely conclude this game is as much of a failure as Capcom's Bionic Commando .
  • Pros: There are some cool and epic boss battles, in addition to entertaining multiplayer matches;
  • Cons: Too many bugs and weird design choices (most of which are dead wrong) ruin the experience, single-player and the story are rubbish.

  • Excerpt: To paraphrase a popular developer, sequels have to be “bigger, better and more badass.” With more enemies and a larger scale, Capcom’s Lost Planet 2 , the sequel to one of the Xbox 360’s first big break out hits is definitely bigger. You could also make the argument that the game’s high end production values and big budget effects make it more badass, but unfortunately –it’s far from better. In fact, Lost Planet 2 is somehow a step backwards for the franchise.

  • Excerpt: ), Capcom is attempting to capture the magic that had players clamoring over the title over 3 years ago. The original title was structured around the story of Wayne, a young man suffering from amnesia and thrown into an epic battle over the colonization on a frozen wasteland of a planet. Fast forward 10 years and we enter into the story of Lost Planet 2. Oddly, Capcom didnt think Wayne was charismatic enough to return as the main character.

  • Conclusion: Lost Planet 2 looked so good in the countless screens and trailers, and indeed the promise of slaying massive beasties was an enticing one. Sadly, there are too many uninspired environments and boring humanoid enemies in the game and not nearly enough Akrid. A lack of genuine innovation and the presence of persisting issues from the first game is unforgivable and frankly, we expected more.

Lost Planet 2 Review

G4
6 May 2010
  • Summary: Like the original, Lost Planet 2 is a third-person sci-fi shooter set on a planet full of malicious military types, defiant pirates, and gigantic aliens, and none of them take kindly to trespassers. But while the basic game is somewhat solid, it has a lot of little annoyances that add up to ultimately prevent it from being more than a rote shooter.
  • Pros: Engaging battles against ginormous enemies., Mech suits are bad-ass., Co-op actually requires co-operation.
  • Cons: Loses so much of what made original unique., Suffers from many bad design choices, from targeting to teammate interaction., Campaign is arguably hostile towards single players.

Lost Planet 2

6 May 2010
  • Excerpt: Lost Planet 2 features an enjoyable multiplayer component and interesting monster designs, but it isn't enough to overcome its many faults. Gamers who enjoyed playing the original title online will find reasons to play it, but it's a disappointing title that doesn't live up to its potential.
  • Pros: Online multiplayer mode still a lot of fun; expanded with new maps and customization options; solid graphics and visuals.

Lost Planet 2 (Xbox 360, PS3) Review

411mania.com
4 May 2010
  • Summary: Lost Planet 2 is a disappointing sequel that is inferior to the original. The controls are poor and confusing, the story is not interesting, and the artificial intelligence is far from intelligent. Outside of the beautiful landscape that you will explore, there’s little to enjoy as you battle the Akrid for T-ENG.
