Lost Odyssey

  • Excerpt: Much like Mistwalker’s previous effort, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey doesn’t push any role-playing game boundaries. However, it’s worth a place in any RPG fan’s collection due to the fresh twists it brings to the genre and its interesting protagonist. Kaim is immortal. He isn’t entirely sure why however, as the past thousand years of his memories have been wiped clean.

A very good fantasy RPG with a few glitches.

  • Summary: Parents need to know that this fighting game is rated "Teen" instead of "Mature" as there is no blood. The player will use a sword or magic to defeat enemies in a turn-based fight mechanic, meaning the combat move is selected and the action plays out without gamer involvement. Enemies -- which are human, creatures, or spirits -- can be stabbed in a dramatic fashion, but it isn't as graphic as other Xbox 360 role-playing games such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion .

  • Conclusion: As emphasised earlier, Lost Odyssey certainly isn’t for everyone. You have to really enjoy the JRPG genre and be prepared to put in the hours to get the most out of the game. And if you preferred the faster-paced Final Fantasy XII over the more traditional turn-based gameplay, Lost Odyssey will feel like a giant step back in time.

Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360) Review

411mania.com
20 May 2008
  • Summary: If you're a JRPG fan, Lost Odyssey should be a no-brainer. It's an amazing looking JRPG that has a stellar development team doing what they've done best for years - creating a compelling gameplay experience around a solid storyline. The collection of 'A Thousand Years of Dreams' is a real step up for 'video game literature' and worth checking out. If you're not a JRPG fan, there's probably nothing here that's going to sway your mind.

  • Excerpt: And so Microsoft continues in its quest to bring Japanese style RPGs to the Xbox 360. Lost Odyssey is another strong effort by Mistwalker Studios, the studio headed by former Squaresoft big-shot Hironobu Sakaguchi. This is the second of two RPGs that Mistwalker has been tapped to create, the first one being Blue Dragon.
