Lode Runner (Xbox360)

EL33TONLINE
7 April 2011
  • Excerpt: Is it just me or does it feel like there aren’t many decent platform games being released anymore? I am sure the young’uns would argue that the first-person shooter genre is the only one worth playing, but there was actually a time when FPS didn’t exist and platform games were the norm, kids!

True achievements

  • Conclusion: Overall a lot to do with this game and a lot of replaying down the road. I'd give this game 4 stars (just hard to please) and I know a lot of people are up in arms over this game, but if I saw it on the store shelve for $15 I would not hesitate. Go ahead and download the trial and I think you'll you enjoy the game.

Lode Runner

The Gamers Temple
15 September 2009
  • Excerpt: Lode Runner is a game that's managed to avoid the retro arcade craze for a while, probably because it began as an early computer game and only later made a rare and brief appearance in arcades. I'm not sure how many old-school gamers are out there who loved what was probably one of the first platform games ever and remember it fondly enough to want to buy this version without a second thought, so I'm going to put all that history aside and simply look at Lode Runner as I...

Lode Runner Review

PlayDevil
15 June 2009
  • Summary: Admittedly when I first downloaded " Lode Runner " I was kind of sceptical about whether re-inventing a 25 year old game would work and especially at a pretty high cost. On first impressions I was thinking that it was going to be somewhat of a let down however once I started playing the minutes flew by as I got more sucked in to it’s unique and intelligent gameplay.

  • Conclusion: But longstanding fans will no doubt lap up what Tozai have achieved with this ageing gem from gaming’s early days – they’ve managed to revitalise and expand Lode Runner while still retaining its traditional gameplay. For retro game addicts, Lode Runner will be worth its weight in gold.

Lode Runner

AV Club
11 May 2009
  • Conclusion: A gaming milestone is treated with respect and given an acceptable latter-day spit-shine.
  • Pros: The core puzzle/action combo, which demands a fast-paced puzzle-solving ability that remains rare in gaming.
  • Cons: You have to directly connect with other users in share lobbies to trade user-created levels. The upshot is that the editor is intuitive, and can be used to remake the original classic levels.

  • Excerpt: This XBox 360 exclusive is a remake of the original 1983 action puzzle game called Lode Runner and needless to say, it was one of those games that defined gaming of that era. Fast forward more than 25 years and this addictive puzzle game has made a welcome return on XBox Live. Apart from boasting new graphics and tweaked gameplay, Lode Runner even features a co-operative mode as you hunt for gold and attempt to outthink the lumbering beasts that want your blood.
