Limbo

Square-Go
9 January 2011
  • Excerpt: After a quick look at Limbo you would be forgiven for thinking that it is simply an old-school 2D Platformer with a very pretty style. It is a 2D platformer in the truest sense; you move your character to the right jumping over traps and pulling levers to avoid death. Limbo is also very pretty as the whole game looks like a shadow play, back-lit by candle light. At times though Limbo can be far more than the sum of its parts.

  • Excerpt: An unknown boy wakes up in the 2D world of LIMBO. Throughout the grayscale side-scrolling world of Limbo, the boy makes his way through a puzzle-platforming environment all in hopes of finding out the fate of his sister. It should be noted that PlayDead Studios, the people responsible for LIMBO, call the game a “trial-and-death” adventure.

  • Pros: Game is very submerging; Puzzles pose a great challenge to your mind; Impressive art style; Feel of dread adds to the effect of the entire presentation.
  • Cons: Ending leaves you hanging in the wind; Lighting issues do give some puzzles a "leap of faith" mentality at times; a bit short.

Limbo

Digital Chumps
19 July 2010
  • Conclusion: Limbo features but one seamless, monochromatic level with no music and no narrative… yet it manages, through creativity and art, to leave a lasting impression. The trepidation of the young hero—searching for his sister—is masterfully communicated via fusion of fantasy and gritty atmosphere.

Limbo

GameTrailers
19 July 2010
  • Excerpt: With its fluid animations and hazy backdrops, Limbo leaps off the screen like a digital dream. The stark black and white imagery is Limbo's most striking feature, placing the silhouette of a little boy in a world of snapping traps, rising flood levels, and the always-deadly threat of gravity. With the only shred of story appearing in the Xbox Marketplace description, Limbo is a puzzle-platformer with that keeps it minimal.
