Left 4 Dead sets out to do the same thing that Counter-Strike did for co-op gaming in the form of team combat. It is an ambitious survival horror game. Left 4 Dead story runs on the Source engine and leaves four armed survivors in a world overrun with zombies. Their mission is to fight their way out to escape the outbreak. The game is designed for co-op play, requiring four players to work together to finish each stage of the game, through means of lending each other artillery support, sharing ammo and rescuing each other when zombies are on top of them. On top of the standard four players who get to play as human characters, another four players also get to play as four main zombie characters amongst the masses of assaulting zombies, all of whom are seeking to take down the other players. Players who get to play zombie find themselves becoming one of the four mutant “boss” zombies, each of which have different unique powers that can be used to devastate, injure, tie up, mark and track, confuse or even humiliate the only four gun-toting human survivors in the game. The Left 4 Dead is an online multiplayer game with two play options, including 4-players online co-op multiplayer and 8-player online versus multiplayer.
