Excerpt: Just Cause is a classic example of a developer thinking “big” as it was always going to be a ambitious project and it was certainly one that had plenty of promise. Much credit is due to all involved for creating a large and generally interesting playing environment, but any true gamer knows where a development teams attention is best placed, therefore we don’t think we need to tell you what we’re on about. Has Just Cause got that special touch?
Conclusion: The only downside is that the grapple can only lock onto and grab vehicles (though that will definitely be fixed in the sequel next year). Just Cause is a pure "love-it-or-hate-it" game. I enjoy it myself, despite the flaws. There are some cool ideas here. I can understand if people hate it, but I think everyone should at least give it a chance, especially since it's dirt-cheap now.
Excerpt: Take a dash of Far Cry, a hint of The Outfit and just a touch of Grand Theft Auto. This recipe for Avalanche Studios’ and Eidos’ Just Cause sounds to me like a good mix for an action-packed sandbox game. For the most part, Just Cause comes out smelling great. If Eidos had just left the game cooking a little longer, it would taste as good as its garnish and smell makes it seem.
Excerpt: It seems the Grand Theft Auto checklist of features oozes into a variety of games these days. Just Cause happens to strongly carbon copy most of those features in its Latin American take on an open free-roaming world. Perhaps the strongest element of Just Cause is based in their unrealistic, but highly entertaining physics system which allows for crazy stunt based maneuvers such as grappling to moving helicopters or leaping from vehicle to vehicle.
