Conclusion: Furthemore this title does more for Kinect in terms of demonstration of ability more so than many of the Kinect Fun Labs do. It's a title I'll be bringing out when I have people round who are curious as to how you can play a game that involves roaming around a level free style. I hope you at least check out the trial, it's absolutely worth it.
Excerpt: The Kinect has had its highs and its lows and a whole lot in between. Each time I get the opportunity to review a Kinect game, I have no small amount of trepidation. I’m always afraid that I’m going...
Pros: + Cute and humorous, + Point and Click sensibility, + Almost perfect gesture controls
Cons: Deflect gesture is spotty, Where was the marketing, Microsoft?!
Excerpt: When it comes to Xbox Live Arcade, the support for the Kinect is a little dense at the moment. Granted, the market did just pick up like last year, and only one game – Fruit Ninja Kinect – has really stepped up as a must-have. But give credit where credit is due, developers are trying to come up with innovative stuff that’s worth owning. And with that, we present a game that fits in that category – Haunt.
Summary: Haunt is for kids. Just like corny haunted-house rides at carnivals where you roll around in a cart while plastic skeletons are thrust in your face, this Kinect-only, 800-point Xbox Live Arcade game from NanaOn-Sha is all about cheap boos. With that said, you could make a fair case that this is one of those rarities that works well with players of all ages.
Pros: Makes mostly good use of Kinect, Campy horror storyline with a great sense of innocence and fun, Colorful, cartoony mansion setting and ghosts, First-rate voice acting
Cons: Controls are occasionally awkward and unresponsive
Excerpt: It may be hidden in Marketplace’s shadows, but Haunt isn’t forgettable XBLA fare. In fact, it’s one of the more entertaining and atmospheric Kinect games yet. The game casts you as the pawn of imprisoned eccentric Benjamin Muldoon, a man trapped inside his haunted mansion’s many paintings who needs you to help free his spirit. Voiced by famed developer Tim Schafer, Muldoon is one of the most endearing NPCs since Portal 2 ’s GLaDOS and Wheatley.
Pros: + A gorgeous, atmospheric world that looks equal parts Tim Burton and, + An excellent script carried by a surprisingly good performance from Double Fine's Tim Schafer.
Cons: ? Why do we have to close drawers and cabinets after examining them?
Excerpt: NanaOn-Sha is a development studio that doesn't put itself in the spotlight very often. It's a studio best known for creating PaRappa the Rapper, but otherwise hasn't made many noticeable games. So when NanaOn-Sha come along and create Haunt, a Kinect game at the top of the roster, it's easy to be taken by surprise. So what is Haunt? The setting is familiar and, at first glance, looks like just another haunted house attraction.
