GUN

The Gamers Temple
16 August 2006
  • Excerpt: What’s the deal with video game Westerns? There is no deal, that’s the deal. There are plenty of action games out there set in various time periods throughout history, but the Old West is a forlorn and forgotten setting. Perhaps it’s that Hollywood has turned its back on one of the genres that helped build its empire. Perhaps it’s that the few Western games that have come down the trail have been so forgettable (quick, name one!).

  • Excerpt: A really cool take on the Western, Gun is a pretty close look at life in the wild west! You star as gunman Colton White who is on a mission to discover what is going on when Ned, a likeable hunter who Colt thinks is his father, is killed by a group of zealots. Given a token and a cryptic clue, Colt embarks on his journey to discover the truth.

GUN Review

Strategy Gaming Online
29 December 2005
  • Excerpt: Neversoft has finally branched out, away from the Tony Hawk franchise and skateboarding games altogether. But few expected them to go make a western game like GUN with open-ended gameplay and a big world map for you to freely explore. But they did, and while GUN has a great story and some nice side missions in its non-linear setup, it simply lacks the fun that players might expect out of a game like this.

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: It's refreshing to play an action game that isn't set in an inner-city environment and that alone is almost reason enough to give Gun a try. While the gameplay may not be all we wanted it to be, it's still a competent vehicle for getting you through the twists of the blood-soaked story. If you're a fan of the Wild West, you're probably already playing this, but if you're not, you might want to give this one another look.

Video Game talk

  • Excerpt: You can probably credit the acclaimed HBO series "Deadwood" for reviving the western genre, making it cool and mainstream again. Last year we saw "Red Dead Revolver" from Rockstar released and this year brings the highly anticipated "GUN". This game was created by the notorious Neversoft, who defined the skateboarding genre with their Tony Hawk series. Can they step outside the skateboarding genre and create something equally as good?

GUN

Gamecell
19 October 2007
  • Conclusion: GUN may be short-lived, but I love my westerns and it has a quality story and lots of enjoyable blood-soaked gameplay. It’s a more traditional and authentic tale than Red Dead Revolver’s wild, weird west, and allows a lot more freedom too – it’s just a shame that the play area isn’t even bigger and there isn’t more to do when you tire of shooting stuff (and you will).
  • Pros: The horses, ‘Quickdraw’ mode works superbly, Excellent storyline, voice talent and music…
  • Cons: It’s just a shame there wasn’t more of it., Can you have too much shooting? – needed more variety, Plain textures, pop up and other graphical glitches mean this doesn’t exactly impress as a 360 game
