Guitar Hero: Smash Hits (Xbox 360) Review

411mania.com
31 October 2009
  • Summary: You'll fall into one of three categories when it comes to Guitar Hero: Smash Hits. You either haven't played these songs yet and want to you've played them before and don't see the need to play them again you love greatest hits compilations and will sell your old copies of the other games and get this. Personally, I fall into the last set of gamers. I like these songs and had a great time playing them again.

Revisiting the Best of Past Titles, Without Doing Anything New

Game Informer
22 September 2009
  • Conclusion: Concept: Guitar Hero experiences a landmark in any rock star's career: the first ''greatest hits'' repackaging of old songs Graphics: While the songs are old, the visual presentation is similar to World Tour or Guitar Hero: Metallica Sound: Although there's nothing we haven't played before, an awful lot of really great songs are here Playability: It's interesting to see some differences in the note charts between the original tracks and these new remakes.

Expert Review

Game Informer
19 September 2009
  • Summary: I'm a big fan of music games, but I'm frustrated at the seemingly unending flow of Guitar Hero titles coming our way these days. Smash Hits is a nice bookend to the first several entries in the franchise, gathering some of the best songs from the first five games in the series, and releasing them with the full-band treatment seen in World Tour.

Guitar Hero: Smash Hits (X360) - Review

VGChartz
5 September 2009
  • Excerpt: Ever been playing your copy of Guitar Hero 3, trying to run the gauntlet that is 'Through the Fire and Flames', and wished that a couple of your friends could jump in and share the pain? Now, you can, with Guitar Hero: Smash Hits. You see, as the name implies, Smash Hits is not technically a 'new' Guitar Hero game, but a compilation of the most popular songs from the franchise.

Guitar Hero: Smash Hits

Defunct Games
5 August 2009
  • Summary: One could certainly argue that Guitar Hero: Smash Hits is nothing more than a glorified expansion pack. But there's definitely enough content in this game to warrant a look, even if you already own these songs in older Guitar Hero games. I just wish Activision would have done more with this idea than throwing us new songs. Tweet This product was submitted by the publisher for review. As a rule, Defunct Games does not review games we spent money on.

Guitar Hero games have been around since November 2005 and the franchise is not showing any signs of slowing down. So it comes as no surprise we now have a greatest hits version called Guitar Hero: Smash Hits.

Guitar Hero: Smash Hits

Gamer vision
8 July 2009
  • Excerpt: When it comes to rhythm games using plastic instruments, I have been pretty vocal about my adoration for the Rock Band series. However, that doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten how I came to love these games in the first place: the Guitar Hero franchise. The moment the demo for the first Guitar Hero hit GameStops, I was instantly obsessed, and I spent an obscene amount of time mastering the setlists of Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II (on the PS2 and 360, even).
