Guardians of Middle Earth
14 December 2012
Conclusion: For representing an untested genre on consoles, Guardians of Middle Earth acquits itself pretty well. If only the online functionality was as airtight as its core strategy, we’d have a truly great mashup on our hands.
Pros: Excellent adaptation of PC MOBA mechanics for consoles, Guardians have pleasing abilities that capture the essence of each character, Timed matches keep battles short and fun, Deep combat and progression
Cons: Occasional laggy matches, sometimes to the point of unplayability, Matchmaking can take ages, Only two maps with too little visual diversity
Excerpt: The idea of selling a MOBA on a console is a fairly uphill battle. MOBA community members have played DotA for about seven years now on a PC, and such a drastic change could have drastic challenges for a development team.
Excerpt: As the first game to bring the traditional MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) genre over from PC, Guardians of Middle-Earth faced the tough test of adapting the formula for console controls while marrying it to the Lord of the Rings franchise. We’re happy to report that it’s a successful union all around, delivering not only the best series release in years, but also a great, strategic new style of play.
Pros: + Smart, tactical combat that requires teamwork., + Great variety between the available Guardians.
Cons: ? Can downloadable content add breadth to this excellent core?
Online multiplayer fantasy game with a focus on fighting.

Summary: Parents need to know that Guardians of Middle-earth is an online-only multiplayer game available through various downloadable game services. Its focus is fantastical combat, with teams of up to five players battling each other for control of spots on small maps. There's no blood or gore, and the raised, third-person perspective keeps the action from becoming very visceral or intense, but the fighting is constant.
Excerpt: Multiplayer online battle arena, or MOBA for short, have become a big thing for PC gaming. A few months ago, the developers for League of Legends threw out a picture with statistics that showed it was the most-played game in the world. It’s not only League of Legends that has become popular. If you check out Steam ’s stat page, then you will find that DOTA 2 – Valve’s own take on the genre – is always at the top with 200,000+ players at any given time.
Guardians of Middle-earth: i MOBA arrivano su console
3 April 2013
Schade, denn damit verschenkt Monolith viel Potenzial.
Pros: Herr-der-Ringe-Lizenz gut umgesetzt, Charaktere unterscheiden sich sehr gut voneinander, Viel Freiraum für Taktikexperimente, Relativ leichter Einstieg, Freischaltbare Extas sorgen für Motivation
Cons: Nur zwei Schlachtfelder, Charakterauswahl etwas dünn, Matchmaking mit Macken
